Antibody heteroaggregates have been used to render human peripheral blood T cells lytic for specified targets. The heteroaggregates contain anti-T3 covalently linked to antibodies against nominal target cell antigens. Such heteroaggregates bind target cells directly to T3 molecules on effector cells and trigger target cell lysis. Freshly prepared human PBL, when coated with anti-T3-containing h...

Background: Salmonella, a bacterial genus of more than 2500 serotypes is considered as the most significant foodborne pathogen causing infections in humans and animals. Increased antimicrobial resistance and persistence of antimicrobial residues in food matrices warrants the need for alternative infection management strategies. Aims: The present study aimed to isolate and evaluate the lytic act...

conclusions the overall results indicated that bacteriophages isolated from sewage exhibited excellent lytic activity against mrsa strains. in conclusion, bacteriophages can be further characterized and appear to be a promising candidate for phage therapy against mrsa in the future. results the phages exhibited good lytic activity against mrsa when tested in-vitro, and the highest activity was ...

Phaeodactylum tricornutum is a dominant bloom forming species and potential biofuel feedstock. To control P. tricornutum bloom or to release lipids from P. tricornutum, we previously screened and identified the lytic bacterium Labrenzia sp. KD531 toward P. tricornutum. In the present study, we evaluated the lytic activity of Labrenzia sp. KD531 on microalgae and investigated its lytic mechanism...

A truncated derivative of the phage endolysin LysK containing only the CHAP (cysteine- and histidine-dependent amidohydrolase/peptidase) domain exhibited lytic activity against live clinical staphylococcal isolates, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This is the first known report of a truncated phage lysin which retains high lytic activity against live staphylococcal cells.

The Epstein-Barr virus BamHI F promoter (Fp) was previously identified as the putative EBNA 1 gene promoter in group 1 Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) cell lines. Fp has also been shown to be activated in Epstein-Barr virus-positive B-cell lines following induction of the viral productive cycle (A. L. Lear, M. Rowe, M. G. Kurilla, S. Lee, S. Henderson, E. Kieff, and A. B. Rickinson, J. Virol. 66:7461-7...

The induction of lytic replication of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) completely arrests cell cycle progression, in spite of elevation of S-phase cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) activity, thereby causing accumulation of hyperphosphorylated forms of retinoblastoma (Rb) protein (A. Kudoh, M. Fujita, T. Kiyono, K. Kuzushima, Y. Sugaya, S. Izuta, Y. Nishiyama, and T. Tsurumi, J. Virol. 77:851-861, 2003)...

The protein kinase C (PKC) pathway has been considered to be essential for activation of latent Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) into the lytic cycle. The phorbol ester tetradecanoyl phorbol acetate (TPA), a PKC agonist, is one of the best understood activators of EBV lytic replication. Zp, the promoter of the EBV immediate-early gene BZLF1, whose product, ZEBRA, drives the lytic cycle, contains severa...

The anti-leukemia potential of natural killer (NK) cells has been evaluated in 40 patients transplanted for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) to determine whether differences in NK cell function were correlated with subsequent leukemic relapse. Cells from patients and their donors were tested in 51Cr release assays against fully allogeneic CML targets and against cultured K562 targets; cells f...

The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) latent-to-lytic switch is mediated by the viral proteins BZLF1 (Z), BRLF1 (R), and BRRF1 (Na). Since we previously showed that DNA-damaging agents (including chemotherapy and irradiation) can induce EBV lytic reactivation and recently demonstrated that wild-type p53 contributes to lytic reactivation, we investigated the role of the ATM kinase during EBV reactivation...
