We study a singular limit problem of the Allen-Cahn equation with Neumann boundary conditions and general initial data of uniformly bounded energy. We prove that the time-parametrized family of limit energy measures is Brakke’s mean curvature flow with a generalized right angle condition on the boundary.

With large expansion plans for the offshore wind turbine industry there has never been a greater need for effective operations and maintenance. The two main problems with the current operations and maintenance of an offshore wind turbine are the cost and availability. In this work a simulation model has been produced of the maintenance process for a wind turbine with the aim of developing a pro...

We describe the implementation and deployment of a software decision support tool for the maintenance planning of gas turbines. The tool is used to plan the maintenance for turbines manufactured and maintained by Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB (SIT AB) with the goal to reduce the direct maintenance costs and the often very costly production losses during maintenance downtime. The optimiza...

This DataWatch refutes the notion that chronic illness is more prevalent among persons covered by indemnity insurance than by health maintenance organizations (HMOs). This is true even when health status and sociodemographic factors are accounted for in the analysis. The study analyzes the prevalence of chronic illness among privately insured nonelderly persons in HMOs and indemnity plans, usin...

Findings with regard to health status, service use, and charges are presented for Medicare beneficiaries who received care under Medicare risk contracts with two health maintenance organizations from 1980 through 1982 and for fee-for-service comparison groups. Health status of plan enrollees and fee-for-service beneficiaries were compared using mortality data, preenrollment claims, and self-rep...

One of the most critical problems in software maintenance and evolution is propagating changes. Although many approaches have been proposed, automated change propagation is still a significant technical challenge in software engineering. In this paper we present an agent-oriented change propagation framework based on fixing inconsistencies when primary changes are made to design models. A core ...

The TECHDOC system [R5sner, Stede 92b] is an implemented prototype that starts from a domain knowledge base about maintenance plans, objects and actions involved, potential hazards etc. and delivers simultaneously generated instruction texts in at the moment three supported languages (English, German and French). Our approach is best characterized as an at tempt to demonstrate the feasibility o...

With increasing dependence on information technology, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) need Disaster Recovery Planning to protect their information systems environment. This paper investigates the impact of Business Impact Analysis and testing on successful implementation of Disaster Recovery Plans (DRPs) by HMOs. A survey reveals that HMOs that conduct Business Impact Analysis are more ...

In a realistic environment, intentions of Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) agents may be threatened by the impact of exogenous change. Subsequent activity failure may incur debilitative consequences which hinder both recovery and subsequent goal achievement. CAMP-BDI (Capability Aware, Maintaining Plans) embodies BDI agents with capability knowledge, allowing anticipation of threats to activity su...
