INTRODUCTION Slow evolution pleomorphic parotid adenoma may be diagnosed late. These giant tumors have a functional, esthetic, and social impact. They raise prognostic issues because of the risk of degeneration. We present a case of a giant pleomorphic adenoma involving the parotid glands and try to explain the reasons for the diagnostic delay and describe therapeutic specificities. CASE REPO...

From a rather extensive review of the literature’2 and an analysis of the case records of patients subjected to operation for mediastinal tumors and cysts the following particular impressions were gained. These neoplasms are relatively infrequent. The most common primary types are those of the thymus and those arising from lymphatic tissues, dermoids and teratomas, and the neurogenous tumors. T...

Porokeratosis is a specific disorder of keratinization that has five clinical types and shows a characteristic 'cornoid lamella' on histopathology. Malignant degeneration has been described in all forms of porokeratosis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first Indian report of multicentric squamous cell carcinoma complicating porokeratosis.

We present a case of a solitary neurofibroma involving the right posterior shoulder of a 69-year-old man with degeneration into a massive, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor measuring more than 3 times the average reported size. The radiographic, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomographic features are compared with the gross appearance and pathology.

Ectopic cervical thymic cysts are uncommon lesions and definitive preoperative diagnosis is not always possible. Surgical excision is recommended due to the small but possible chance of malignant degeneration in adulthood. We present a case of a nine-year-old boy with an asymptomatic lesion in his neck, discuss the differential diagnoses of such lesions and treatment considerations.

We report the case history of an external thoracic wall lipoma, which was noticed incidentally on a chest roentgenogram because of its calcification. A probable diagnosis was made by computer tomography. Because of the increase in size of the tumour it was removed surgically, but no evidence of malignant degeneration was found.

A 41-year-old female patient with neurofibromatosis 1 presented with new neurologic deficits secondary to malignant degeneration of a tibial lesion. Ultrasound mapping of the popliteal nerve revealed changes consistent with an intraneural neurofibroma. Successful popliteal nerve blockade was achieved under ultrasound guidance.

Malignant degeneration within epidermal cysts is very rare. However, these lesions may not be recognised clinically, and histological examination plays an important role in arriving at a correct diagnosis. Hence, we believe that benign-looking cystic lesions with a history of progressive growth should be surgically excised and submitted for histopathological assessment.
