OBJECTIVES To investigate dual-phase multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) for assessing extent and severity of jeopardised and infarcted myocardium subtended by infarct-related artery (IRA), and its indication for revascularisation after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Designs, setting and PATIENTS Prospective, single-centre study included 107 patients with uncomplicated post-AMI 3-7 ...

BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown cross-sectional 3-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) measurements to severely underestimate multidetector row computed tomographic (MDCT) measurements for the assessment of aortic annulus before transcatheter aortic valve replacement. This study compares annulus measurements from 3D-TEE using off-label use of commercially available so...

The accurate diagnosis of pediatric acute abdominal pain is one of the most challenging tasks in the emergency department (ED) due to its unclear clinical presentation and non-specific findings in physical examinations, laboratory data, and plain radiographs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of abdominal multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) performed in the ED on pedia...

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in the preoperative staging of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and pathological records of 312 patients with RCC who underwent staging MDCT before surgery. Radiographic findings were compared to the findings at surgery and pathol...

Gated multi-detector CT (MDCT) is now recognised as an excellent and robust application for non-invasive assessment of coronary arteries, and in many centres is routinely used. Some studies have shown that MDCT scanners with 64-detector row have a 99% negative predictive value for the detection of coronary artery stenosis. MDCT images obtained with ECG gating are superior to the standard (non-E...

MAP7 domain containing protein 3 (MAP7D3), a newly identified microtubule associated protein, has been shown to promote microtubule assembly and stability. Its microtubule binding region has been reported to consist of two coiled coil motifs located at the N-terminus. It possesses a MAP7 domain near the C-terminus and belongs to the microtubule associated protein 7 (MAP7) family. The MAP7 domai...

Trauma is a significant public health problem, representing the third leading cause of death in the United States. Trauma is also the leading cause of mortality in Americans under the age of 40. With the widespread availability of multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) in trauma centers, the traditional workup of trauma patients has changed. Blunt chest injuries are now frequently studied...

We herein report two cases of incidental finding of the sternalis muscle in the right anterior chest wall on multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT). We emphasize the diagnostic utility and value of additional postprocessed MDCT images, which can be easily created using volume data sets of MDCT, in establishing an accurate diagnosis of the sternalis muscle, an uncommon muscular variant.

CONTEXT Pancreatic arteriovenous malformations are a rare entity that can be incidentally discovered during MDCT examinations. CASE REPORT We describe a rare case of asymptomatic arteriovenous malformation presenting at MDCT as a hypervascular mass in the pancreatic head. CONCLUSION Pancreatic arteriovenous malformations are a rare entity, often asymptomatic, that can be correctly diagnosed...

OBJECTIVE To compare multi-detector CT (MDCT) using 128-slice coronary CT angiography (Definition AS+, Siemens Medical Solution, Forchheim, Germany) with ECG-based maximum tube current modulation with echocardiography for the determination of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV), as well as assessing coronary artery image quality and p...
