Erratum to: Investigations of Heavy Metal Ion Sorption Using Nanocomposites of Iron-Modified Biochar
Erratum In the original publication [1] the author name L. V. Pylychuk had a spelling error and one sentence under paragraph “Effect of Initial pH” consisted an error. Incorrect name: L. V. Pylypchuk Correct name: L. V. Pylychuk Wrong sentence: Additionally, based on the speciation diagram (Fig. 2) for the pH values 5.0 and 6.0 Cd2+, Cd(II) was predominant. Should have read: Additionally, based...
Increasingly, nanoscale phase coexistence and hidden broken symmetry states are being found in the vicinity of metal-insulator transitions (MIT), for example, in high temperature superconductors, heavy fermion and colossal magnetoresistive materials, but their importance and possible role in the MIT and related emergent behaviors is not understood. Despite their ubiquity, they are hard to study...
The aim of this study was to determine the possibility of using feathers of blue tit nestlings to assess the level of endogenous accumulation of lead. For this purpose we conducted an experiment with lead application to randomly chosen nestlings from eight randomly drawn broods. Five days after the exposure, feathers of lead-treated nestlings had significantly higher lead concentrations than co...
Engineering electronic structure of atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) materials is of great importance to their potential applications. In comparison to numerous other approaches, such as strain and chemical functionization, alloying can continuously tune the band gaps in a wide energy range. Atomically thin 2D alloys have been prepared and studied recently due to their potential use in elec...
Reports of metallic behavior in two-dimensional (2D) systems such as high mobility metal-oxide field effect transistors, insulating oxide interfaces, graphene, and MoS2 have challenged the well-known prediction of Abrahams, et al. that all 2D systems must be insulating. The existence of a metallic state for such a wide range of 2D systems thus reveals a wide gap in our understanding of 2D trans...
When graphene is placed on a monolayer of semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) its band structure develops rich spin textures due to proximity spin-orbital effects with interfacial breaking of inversion symmetry. In this work, we show that the characteristic spin winding of low-energy states in graphene on a TMD monolayer enables current-driven spin polarization, a phenomenon kn...
An overview is presented of selected metal-based pharmaceuticals, either diagnostic or therapeutic, with emphasis on specific attributes and in vivo interactions of these compounds relevant to their use in medicinal applications. Both the advantages and the challenges of this approach are outlined, with possibilities for future developments accentuated.
A shrinking core model is presented for the galvanostatic discharge of a metal hydride particle. A quantitative criterion for when the shrinking core can be completely neglected or approximated by a pseudosteady-state solution is presented. The effect of shrinking of the core on the discharge behavior of a metal hydride particle is also studied. © 2000 The Electrochemical Society. S0013-4651(00...
