A radio-over-fiber system uses light to carry a microwave subcarrier on optical fibers. The microwave is usually frequency modulated for wireless broadcasting. A conventional optical communication system usually operates at the baseband with amplitude modulation. The interface of the two systems thus needs an upconversion from the baseband to the microwave band with AM-to-FM transformation. An ...

Optically injected semiconductor laser under periodone oscillation is investigated as a source for photonic microwave transmission over fiber. The period-one nonlinear dynamics of an optically injected laser is studied for the purpose of minimizing the microwave power penalty induced by chromatic dispersion. Over a large range of injection strengths and frequency detunings, we first obtain the ...

The increasing use of microwave devices over recent years has meant the bioeffects of microwave exposure have been widely investigated and reported. However the exact biological fate of bone marrow MSCs (BM-MSCs) after microwave radiation remains unknown. In this study, the potential cytotoxicity on MSC proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle, and in vitro differentiation were assayed following 2....

We present tomographic imaging of biological tissues by use of microwave-induced acoustic signal. It was demonstrated that the acoustic signal was proportional to the intensity of the incident microwave and was related to the absorption property of microwave in the medium. Pulsed microwave radiation was used to illuminate the samples. Absorbed microwave energy caused thermoelastic expansion tha...

Microwave irradiation can be used to regulate biocatalysis. Herein, the utilization of hyperthermophilic enzymes in a microwave reactor is reported. While these enzymes are inactive at low temperatures, they can be activated with microwave irradiation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first illustration of a specific microwave effect in enzymatic catalysis.

in this search drying characteristics of green pea (pisum satium) with an initial moisture content of 76% (db) was studied in a fluidized bed dryer assisted by microwave heating. four drying air temperatures (30, 40, 50 and 60ºc) and five microwave powers (180, 360, 540, 720 and 900w) were adopted. at each drying operating conditions the volume of green pea was calculated by measuring the three...

Recent years many authors reported thermal anomaly change around epicenter before earthquake. Some researchers tried to predict the earthquake based on the analysis on the temperature anomaly feature by using satellite thermal infrared data. However the infrared radiation can not pass through the thick-layer cloud, so as to hardly achieve the earthquake monitoring. Microwave is also a kind of t...

This study was conducted in an attempt to characterize some of the effects of sublethal microwave radiation on cells of Staphylococcus aureus. Cultures were exposed to microwave radiation for 10, 20, 30, and 40 s. The effects of a conventional heat treatment were also compared by placing flasks containing cultures in a boiling water bath for the amount of time required to reach temperatures equ...

In recent years, various types of applications of electromagnetic techniques for microwave thermal therapy have been developed. Among them, minimally invasive microwave thermal therapies for cancer are of great interest. They are interstitial microwave hyperthermia and microwave coagulation therapy. In this paper, we describe the characteristics of thin coaxial antennas for those therapies.

Microwave ovens and 802.11 both use the unlicensed 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band. Microwave ovens use this frequency to heat while 802.11 uses this for communication. The use of microwave ovens in the vicinity of an 802.11 node therefore naturally affects the node's ability to communicate. In this project we investigate how microwave oven noise interacts with 802.11 communicat...
