Background and objectives: Resistance towards reveling antibiotics has captured great interest in evaluating the antimicrobial properties of the natural plants. Taraxacum mongolicum is widely used as a folklore medicinal plant for its diuretic, antirheumatic and anti-inflammatory properties. Though there are some reports on antimicrobial properties of Taraxacum mongolicum, stu...

Recently, the effects of antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles was considered by researcher because of Bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents in chemical. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the gold nanoparticles on Escherichia coli. Gold nanoparticles are chemically synthesized. Standard strain of E. coli was cultured in a nutrient broth. Minimum ...

A new α-pyrone, 6R-[5R,6S-diacetyloxy-1Z,3E-heptadienyl]-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2one (1), along with six known compounds including an α-pyrone, flavones and terpenes was isolated from the aerial parts of Neohyptis paniculata. The structure of 1 was established unambiguously by MS and a series of 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopic analyses. The antibacterial activity of the compounds (1-7) was investigat...

The present study was designated to evaluate the antimicrobial activities of various solvent extracts from fruits of Terminalia chebula. The preliminary antimicrobial activities of the extracts against cariogenic organisms were tested by using disc diffusion assay. The methanolic extract showed higher antimicrobial activity against all the cariogenic organisms tested. Based on this finding, the...

Orbifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone drug used widely in companion animal medicine. In this study, we firstly determined post-antibiotic effects (PAEs) and post-antibiotic sub-minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) effects (PA-SMEs) of orbifloxacin for two strains each of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa from dogs, and these parameters were compared with those of enrofloxacin. At twice...

For filamentous fungi (moulds), species-specific interpretive breakpoints and epidemiological cut-off values (ECVs) have only been proposed for a limited number of fungal species-antifungal agent combinations, with the result that clinical breakpoints are lacking for most emerging mould pathogens. In the current study, we have compiled minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) data for 4869 clinic...

Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of daptomycin, linezolid, and vancomycin against 212 isolates of Listeria monocytogenes, Pediococcus, Leuconostoc, Rhodococcus and Nocardia species were determined by the broth microdilution method and the Etest (daptomycin only). Except for Leuconostoc species, daptomycin Etest MICs showed >90% agreement with MICs by the broth microdilution method.

Production of staphylococcal beta-lactamase was shown to be correlated with penicillin G minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of greater than 0.05 microgram/ml for 97% of the Staphylococcus aureus and 99% of the Staphylococcus epidermidis strains tested. However, it is important to note that of the isolates for which MICs were equal to or less than 0.05 micro/ml, a significant percentage (1...

Use of oral antifungals in the treatment of onychomycosis is commonplace; but their use can be limited by safety and patient concerns. Due to their broader safety margins, topical antifungals (efinaconazole, tavaborole, and ciclopirox) are a useful option in the treatment of mild-to-moderate onychomycosis in the USA, but their antifungal activity has yet to be directly compared. This study aims...
