In this paper we give a description of the subsystem construct in the Uniied Modeling Language, emphasizing its dynamic aspects , thus giving a detailed description of the semantics of interaction with subsystems. Depending on whether the surroundings of the subsystem make use of public elements in the subsystem or not, the subsystem is considered to be open or closed, respectively. This leads ...

In the last few years, there has been considerable interest in sketch input of 3D solid models. This paper summarises recent developments and discusses the directions these developments are taking. We consider three developments in particular: the move away from line labelling as a technique in recognition of the problem posed by extended vertices; the increasing use of symmetry detection as a ...

The purpose of this symposium, held in conjunction with MoDELS 2006, was to present the current state of research of the UML 2 Semantics Project. Equally important to receiving feedback from an audience of experts was the opportunity to invite researchers in the field to discuss their own work related to a formal semantics for the Unified Modeling Language. This symposium is a follow-on to our ...

Representation and modeling of economic uncertainty is addressed by different modeling methods, namely stochastic variables and probabilities, interval analysis, and fuzzy numbers, in particular triple estimates. Fo-cusing on discounted cash flow analysis numerical results are presented, comparisons are made between alter-native modeling methods, and characteristics of the methods are discussed.

UML is the rst OO modeling language with a useful modularization and information hiding concept. It supports nesting, import, and reenement of so-called packages. This paper translates UML's informal package deenition into predicate logic formulas and solves some open problems concerning the visibility of exported and imported modeling elements. Furthermore, the formulas will be transformed int...

The unified modeling language (UML) developed under the coordination of the Object Management Group (OMG) is one of the most important standards for the specification and design of object oriented systems. This standard is currently tuned for real time applications in the form of a new proposal, UML for Real-Time (UML-RT), by Rational Software Corporation and ObjecTime Limited. Because of the i...

The Unified Modeling Language is extensible, and so can be regarded as a family of languages. Implicitly or explicitly, any particular UML model should be accompanied by a definition of the particular UML family member used for the model. The definition should cover syntactic and semantic issues. This paper proposes a mechanism for associating models with such definitions. Any particular defini...

The E modeling language offers a set of mechanisms to support the modeling of complex business and engineering processes. The language is based on well-known objectoriented concepts, extended with specific process-related notions. The E language is supported by a modeling tool (called E p-draw) that offers mechanisms to support the dynamic partitioning of the process model, and enables the crea...
