Tuberculosis remains a public health problem in Turkey. Rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis plays a key role in control of infection. In this article, the Gen-Probe Amplified Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Direct Test (MTD) was evaluated for detection of M. tuberculosis in urine samples. The performance of the MTD was very good and appropriate for routine laboratory diagnosis.
INTRODUCTION Non-tuberculosis mycobacterium is especially seen in AIDS and non-immunosuppressant patients. This study was designed to evaluate data relating to non-tuberculosis mycobacterium content in patients' sputum for the clinical importance. PATIENTS AND METHODS During 2009-2010 at Sureyyapasa Chest Diseases and Chest Surgery Training and Research Hospital clinics, 75 patients [30 women...
BACKGROUND : Interferon-gamma (INF-γ) is an important cytokine in the immune response against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. activates macrophage to kill intracellular mycobacterium. AIM: The aim of this study determine difference plasma INF-γ level pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) patients compared a healthy control and factors associated with interferon-gamma level. METHODS: This case–control study....
We present a case of tenosynovitis caused by a novel, slowly growing, nonchromogenic, nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM). Originally misidentified as Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, the NTM cross-reacts with the M. tuberculosis complex nucleic acid hybridization probe, a M. tuberculosis gamma interferon release assay, and is closely related to M. tuberculosis by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
tuberculosis is one of the most important infectious diseases and a major cause of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. multi drug resistant tuberculosis is a new threat, which can result in a high case fatality rate. this study was conducted to define the incidence of multidrug resistant tuberculosis in kermanshah. antibiogram was performed on pcr-confirmed isolates of mycobacte...
Previous studies of antibody responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens at different stages of tuberculosis (TB) and in different classes of TB patients provided evidence that the profile of antigens recognized by antibodies is altered with disease progression. M. tuberculosis is a slow-growing organism, and it takes several weeks to months for an infection to progress to clinical TB. App...
To better understand the biology and the virulence determinants of the two major mycobacterial human pathogens Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae, their genome sequences have been determined recently. In silico comparisons revealed that among the 1439 genes common to both M. tuberculosis and M. leprae, 219 genes code for proteins that show no similarity with proteins from other...
Lung transplantation is a therapeutic option for the treatment of advanced lung disease. The risk pulmonary infections increased in transplant recipients. We report case coinfection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Nocardia species recipient.
A PCR specific for spacer regions 33 and 34 of the direct repeat region of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex was developed to complement the biochemical differentiation of M. tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis, M. bovis BCG, and Mycobacterium africanum subtypes I and II. In addition, this approach was incorporated into a multiplex PCR that included primers specific for IS6110 and the 65-kDa...
From 1991 to 1996, 541 blood samples were tested for the presence of mycobacteria; 56 were positive (30 patients, 26 human immunodeficiency virus positive). The species found were Mycobacterium avium (41 samples from 18 patients), Mycobacterium tuberculosis (12 samples from 9 patients), and three other species (1 sample each). The average time to detection was 25.23 days (22.65 for M. avium and...
