In this paper, we present results of agent-based modeling for the solution of dynamic resource allocation problems in manufacturing. After a concise problem description, we start by identifying the agents necessary for the required shop floor control functionality. Then we describe the architecture and implementation of a multi-agent-system prototype based on the object-oriented framework JAFMA...

In this paper, we study resource allocation problem in orthogonal frequency division multiple access multiple-input multiple-output (OFDMA-MIMO) relay systems and formulate the optimal instantaneous resource allocation problem including subcarrier assignment, relay selection and power allocation to maximize system capacity. Based on the assumption that the availability of perfect channel state ...

The strengths and weaknesses of agent-based approaches and mathematical optimization techniques are analyzed and compared. Their appropriateness for dynamic distributed resource allocation is evaluated. We conclude that their properties are complementary and that it seems fruitful to try to combine the approaches. Some suggestions of such hybrid systems are sketched.

This paper describes an accelerated resource allocation of autonomous moving multi-agents, whose agents stochastically move on a resource consisting of cells in accordance with transition probabilities in synchronization, depending on other agents. Then, each agent has an accelerated average moving speed for their moving directions randomly and independently. We assume interactions or coordinat...

The rapid changes in business environment call for flexible and adaptive workflow systems. In this paper we describe how we incorporate Web Services as well as provide an intelligent resource allocation mechanism to our existing agent-based workflow management system (WfMS). The extended architecture enhances the adaptability aspect of our system. In addition to the process perspective of adapt...

In this paper we estimate the relationship between road capacity and vehicle miles of travel (VMT) from a sample of 12,000 respondents from 48 urban areas in the 1995 Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey (NPTS). Our approach seeks to account for the effects of residential location, employment location, and commute mode choice in estimating the effect of capacity on VMT. VMT is found to be ...

The dynamic communications management of networks of Autonomous Vehicles is a challenging resource allocation problem. Our aim is to provide a robust and optimal solution with minimal overheads which allows for the prioritisation of information. We describe a communications management scheme which potentially has these properties and demonstrate key desirable properties empirically.

This paper introduces a contract-driven resource management process and supporting middleware framework. We aim at supporting mobile computing tasks as they appear in the areas of Ambient Intelligence (AmI). As available resources in AmI environments fluctuate frequently, the resource usage of AmI tasks must be extremely flexible. The presented component based methodology permits an optimal fle...

A centralized resource allocation algorithm in multi-cell OFDM systems is studied, which aims at improving the performance of wireless communication systems and enhancing user’s spectral efficiency on the edge of the cell. The proposed resource allocation algorithm can be divided into two steps. The first step is sub-carrier allocation based on matrix searching in single cell and the second one...

This paper presents a model for solving a resource allocation problem (the ‘Screaming Generals’ problem) in which autonomous agents negotiate for use of the resources. The Screaming Generals problem is a test-bed for our ideas about task completion in a multi-agent environment with hard deadlines. Rather than analyze some specific negotiation scheme, we present a model that accepts the results ...
