ABSTRACT Background Olfactory communication in cats is of major importance. It is rather complex and includes pheromone-driven and classical odour-based communication. Cats use various marking behaviours to transmit pheromone signals: appeasing markings that have a calming effect and alarm markings that can exacerbate stress. On the other hand, classical odours could possibly complete, modify, ...

Background and objectives: To date, thousands of secondary metabolites have been isolated from plants and microorganisms and there is an unprecedented attention towards potential biomedical applications of natural compounds. In this study, cytotoxic properties of methanol extracts of Stachys obtusicrena, Aristolochia olivieri, Linum album, Dionysia sawyeri, Ajuga chamaecist...

New data on 10 adventive plant species are given. Two and one subspecies (Atriplex hortensis, Solanum nigrum subsp. schultesii, Nepeta cataria) new for the Republic of Buryatia. Five two interspecies hybrids (Arctium × mixtum, Galinsoga parviflora, Hesperis pycnotricha, Lactuca serriola, Medicago varia, Onobrychis viciifolia, Viola tricolor) recorded first time in Ulan-Ude city its neighborhood.

Aldosterone secretion by glomerulosa cells is stimulated by angiotensin II (ANG II), extracellular K(+), corticotrophin, and several paracrine factors. Electrophysiological, fluorimetric, and molecular biological techniques have significantly clarified the molecular action of these stimuli. The steroidogenic effect of corticotrophin is mediated by adenylyl cyclase, whereas potassium activates v...

The role of protein kinases in the steroidogenic actions of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), angiotensin II (AngII) and corticotropin (ACTH) in the rat adrenal zona glomerulosa was examined. Ro31-8220, a potent selective inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC), inhibited both AngII- and alpha-MSH-stimulated aldosterone secretion but had no effect on aldosterone secretion in respons...

Adaptation to hypoxia in the neonate requires an appropriate adrenocortical response. The purpose of this study was to examine the adaptation of the aldosterone pathway in rat pups exposed to hypoxia in vivo from birth to 7 days of age. Neonatal rats (with their lactating dams) were exposed to normoxia (21% O2) or hypoxia (12% O2) continuously for 7 days from birth. Trunk blood was collected, a...

The knowledge of the endocrine glands in aged animals seems necessary in the understanding of the relationship of endocrine glands to the whole organism. Most of our knowledge concerning the senile changes are based on the findings from laboratory animals . Meanwhile, reports concerning the ageing process of the endocrine glands of domestic animals are especially few. The present study is conce...
