To determine how soil properties influence nanoparticle (NP) fate, bioavailability and toxicity, this study compared the toxicity of nano zinc oxide (ZnO NPs), non-nano ZnO and ionic ZnCl2 to the earthworm Eisenia fetida in a natural soil at three pH levels. NP characterisation indicated that reaction with the soil media greatly controls ZnO properties. Three main conclusions were drawn. First ...

In this study, ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were conformally covered on the surfaces of ZnO nanowires (ZnO NWs) with high diffusion coefficient (1.2 × 10(-2) cm(2) s(-1)) to make a composite photoanode. By using N719 to sensitize the composite photoanode, the conversion efficiency can reach 7.14%.

This paper presents the preparation and characterization of a porous antimicrobial composite material consisting diatomaceous earth, an inorganic pore-forming agent, nano-zinc oxide (ZnO). A modified direct precipitation device produced high-surface area ZnO powder. The effect reaction temperature, volume flow rate, titration rate on particle size was studied. Using sodium chloride, potassium n...

In this paper, we report deposition of ZnO nanoparticles on stainless steel orthodontic wires by chemical solution method for the first time. The prepared samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX), visibleultraviolet diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM...

The synthesis of micro-sized, uniformly distributed Al2O3-15Vol% Ni powders were studied through three step co-precipitation of hydroxides mixtures from proper solution, calcination at air atmosphere and final step of calcined powders in a carbon bed. Al and Ni hydroxide and amorphous phase were first obtained from their salt’s solutions through chemical co-precipitation method by adjusti...

In this paper, lead free (K0.48,Na0.52)NbO3 (KNN(48-52)) piezoelectric ceramics were made by conventional solid state sintering process. Additives of nano ZnO (n-ZnO), nano CuO (n-CuO) and nano SnO2 (n-SnO2) were used in order to decrease the sintering temperature, as well as modifying the dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroelectric propert...

The fabrication of nanostructures having diameters of sub-5 nm is very a important issue for bottom-up nanofabrication of nanoscale devices. In this work, we report a highly controllable method to create sub-5 nm nano-trenches and nanowires by combining area-selective atomic layer deposition (ALD) with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) as templates. Alumina nano-trenches having a depth of ...

In order to enhance the photodegradation of methyl orange (MO) by ZnO under visible light irradiation, ZnO nanoparticles co-doped with Ag and N and supported on activated carbon (AC) with different properties were synthesized through the sol-gel method. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized in terms of the structure and properties through X-ray diffraction, N₂ adsorption-desorption, ul...

A high-throughput screening (HTS) method based on fluorescence imaging (FI) was implemented to evaluate the catalytic performance of selenide-modified nano-TiO2. Chemical ink-jet printing (IJP) technology was reformed to fabricate a catalyst library comprising 1405 (Ni(a)Cu(b)Cd(c)Ce(d)In(e)Y(f))Se(x)/TiO2 (M6Se/Ti) composite photocatalysts. Nineteen M6Se/Tis were screened out from the 1405 can...

BACKGROUND Mono aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX) are a group of hazardous pollutants which originate from sources such as refineries, gas, and oil extraction fields, petrochemicals and paint and glue industries.Conventional methods, including incineration, condensation, adsorption and absorption have been used for removal of VOCs. None of these methods is economical for removal of pollutants of pol...
