Three methods (using GM3 quantities ranging from a few milligrams to grams) have been developed to prepare, in high yield, the three derivatives of ganglioside GM3 [alpha-Neu5Ac-(2-3)-beta-Gal-(1-4)-beta-Glc-(1-1)-ceramide]: deacetyl-GM3 [alpha-Neu-(2-3)-beta-Gal-(1-4)-beta-Glc-(1-1)-ceramide], lyso-GM3 [alpha-Neu5Ac-(2-3)-beta-Gal-(1-4)-beta-Glc-(1-1)-sphingosine], and deacetyl-lyso-GM3 [alpha...

Allylindium dichloride is an effective reagent for carrying out photolytically initiated radical allylation reactions, as also proved by EPR experiments. In the presence of suitable azides that can give rise to electrophilic radicals, a homolytic chain reaction occurs with formation of allylated compounds. With delta-azido esters and chlorides generation of primary indiumaminyl radicals is foll...

tert-Butyl hypoiodite (t-BuOI) was found to be a powerful reagent for synthesis of aziridines from olefins and sulfonamides. The aziridination of olefins was achieved by using sulfonamides with t-BuOI. Our preliminary findings represent the example of metal-free aziridination of olefins with readily accessible sulfonamides as a nitrogen source.

[reaction: see text] 1,1,3,3-Tetramethylguanidine (TMG)(1), a nitrogen organic base, is a convenient and useful reagent for chemoselective deprotection of both silyl and acetyl groups on acidic hydroxyl groups such as phenol and carboxylic acid without affecting aliphatic silyl and acetyl groups. The chemoselectivity is dependent on the acidity of the hydroxyl group.

The addition of various nucleophiles to a vinyl 1,2,4-oxadiazole is described. Following optimisation, individual protocols tuned for the use of each specific class of reagent have been developed to allow the installation of nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen, and carbon nucleophiles, and leading to the preparation of a series of compounds containing the pharmaceutically important oxadiazole motif.
