M by the increasing attention given to the operational importance of developing new services, this paper offers a theoretical framework that integrates both processand resourceoriented perspectives of new service development (NSD) by defining and organizing 45 practice constructs for NSD-related practices and activities that occur in contemporary service firms. We employ a rigorous procedure wh...

A primary focus of this short communication is to show how the operational definition of light use efficiency (LUE) influences the results and interpretation of the LUE model. Our study was motivated by the observation that multiple LUE definitions are reported in the literature. The temporal behavior of three operational definitions of LUE, based on (i) incident radiation, (ii) total absorbed ...

We give a model for Nakano’s typed lambda calculus with guarded recursive definitions in a category of metric spaces. By proving a computational adequacy result that relates the interpretation with the operational semantics, we show that the model can be used to reason about contextual equivalence.

OCamllight key points •Written in Ott • Faithful to Objective Caml (very nearly) • Type soundness proof mechanized in HOL (Coq and Isabelle/HOL definitions generated too) • Operational semantics validated on test programs • Small-step operational semantics (131 rules) • Type system (179 rules, below) • definitions: – variant data types (e.g., type t = I of int | C of char), – record types (e.g....

OBJECTIVE This study examined the occurrence and duration of sedentary bouts and explored the cross-sectional association with health indicators in children applying various operational definitions of sedentary bouts. METHODS Accelerometer data of 647 children (10-13 years old) were collected in five European countries. We analyzed sedentary time (<100 cpm) accumulated in bouts of at least 5,...

This article examines children and adolescent exposure to violence in various contexts. A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify the definitions and types of violence reported in studies on victimization using the ecological systems framework. Sources included research studies and/or reports from scholarly journals (n = 140), books (n = 9), conference/workshops (n = 5), a...

BACKGROUND The CNS inflammatory demyelinating disorders of childhood include both self-limited and lifelong conditions, which can be indistinguishable at the time of initial presentation. Clinical, biologic, and radiographic delineation of the various monophasic and chronic childhood demyelinating disorders requires an operational classification system to facilitate prospective research studies...

Structured operational semantics is widely recognized as a conceptually simple and practically expressive framework to formally design type systems in programming languages. Being easy to reason with, the type-theoretical setting of operational semantics is used increasingly to formulate program analysis techniques, called effect systems. Effect systems distinguish between the specification of ...

This paper introduces a deterministic operational semantics for functional logic programs including notions like laziness, sharing, concurrency, non-deterministic functions, etc. Our semantic description is important not only to provide appropriate language definitions to reason about programs and check the correctness of implementations but it is also a basis to develop language-specific tools...

fully incorporated into previous studies of successful aging. This article examines earlier conceptualizations of successful aging and calls for a reformulation that is more responsive to developmental processes and theoretical guidance. Issues of operational definitions, selective sampling, and stage theory are discussed, and the perspective is illustrated with empirical research in the person...
