Laboratory tests were carried out in order to examine competition among three congeneric species on rice and maize: the granary weevil, Sitophilus granarius, the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae and the maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais. For this purpose, a total of 30 adults were placed in vials that contained 50 g or either rice or maize: 30 adults of S. granarius, 30 adults of S. oryzae, 30 adu...

Marine fungi producing antifungal compounds were screened against Pyricularia oryzae (P. oryzae), and a metabolite of marine fungus M-3 isolated from laver (Porphyra yezoensis) showed potent activity. Novel diketopiperazine (1) was isolated from the culture extracts, and its structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods. The MIC of 1 against P. oryzae was 0.36 microM.

Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae is the causal agent of bacterial leaf blight, one of the most serious diseases in rice. X. oryzae pv. oryzae Philippine race 6 (PR6) strains are unable to establish infection in rice lines expressing the resistance gene Xa21. Although the pathogen-associated molecule that triggers the Xa21-mediated defense response (AvrXa21) is unknown, six rax (required for AvrXa2...

In Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae, the causal agent of bacterial leaf blight of rice, HrpXo is known to be a transcriptional regulator for the hypersensitive response and pathogenicity (hrp) genes. Several HrpXo regulons are preceded by a consensus sequence (TTCGC-N(15)-TTCGC), called the plant-inducible promoter (PIP) box, which is required for expression of the gene that follows. Thus, the PIP...

Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae causes bacterial blight, a serious disease of rice. Our analysis revealed that the X. oryzae pv. oryzae genome encodes genes responsible for iron uptake through FeoB (homolog of the major bacterial ferrous iron transporter) and a siderophore. A mutation in the X. oryzae pv. oryzae feoB gene causes severe virulence deficiency, growth deficiency in iron-limiting medi...

Endophytic persistence of inoculated plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) involves interaction with the host and host’s indigenous endophytic bacterial communities. This study investigated Methylobacterium oryzae CBMB20 into rice endosphere together impact inoculation on diversity community structure root shoot endophytes in Oryza sativa L. spp. indica cv. IR29. Terminal Restriction Fragment ...

Abstract Transcription activator-like effectors (TALEs) produced by plant pathogenic bacteria mainly belonging to the genus Xanthomonas cause diseases through activation of host susceptibility genes in cell nuclei. How TALEs enter nuclei was not clear until recent studies about PthXo1 and TALI, two oryzae pv. ( Xoo ) X. oryzicola Xoc ), rice Oryza sativa pathogens that bacterial blight leaf str...
