For modeling the electric organ discharge of Malapterurus electricus catfish we have set up the electromechanical scheme of the catfish as an electric dipole the charges of which are linked by a spring of stiffness k. We call this particular system of charges an oscillating electric dipole. Taking into account the main forces applied to this dipole and applying the Newton’s second law of motion...

Bartussek, Hänggi and Kissner studied a rocking ratchet system, in which a Brownian particle is subject to an asymmetric periodic potential together with an oscillating force, and found that the direction of the macroscopic current can be reversed by changing the parameter values characterizing the model [Europhys. Lett., 28 (1994) 459]. In this letter, we apply their ratchet theory to a rotary...

A model of a strip of cardiac tissue consisting of a one-dimensional chain of cardiac units is derived in the form of a non-linear partial difference equation. Perturbation analysis is performed on this equation, and it is shown that regular perturbations are inadequate due to the appearance of secular terms. A singular perturbation procedure known as the method of multiple scales is shown to p...

We propose a system capable in real time of adding controllable and plausible oscillating physical like reaction effects in response to external forces (perturbations). These oscillating effects may be used to modify a motion or to customize it in a cartoon like way. The core of our system is based on several connected 3D pendulums with a propagating reaction. These pendulums always return to a...

OBJECTIVE We examined motion sickness in an oscillating virtual environment presented via a video projector system. BACKGROUND Visible oscillation of the physical environment is known to induce both postural instability and motion sickness, but it cannot be assumed that the same phenomena will occur in a virtual simulation of such motion. METHOD Standing participants (3 men and 9 women, 20-...

We present a real-time method for stabilizing video sequences taken from an oscillating camera. We estimate camera rotation (roll) and translation on the image plane with Fourier spectrum analysis and Integral projection matching and then filter-out high-frequency motion components (presumably due to unintentional oscillation) , preserving intentional motion.

This paper deals with generalized approach to the reciprocating piston compressor driven by oscillating electrical motor and possibilities of development of new structures of the device. The current term linear compressor, ipso facto, restricts the considered devices only with a linear motion of the piston. Therefore the more general term oscillating motor-compressors is used in the paper, in w...

The Higgs effective potential with temperature corrections is considered and different cases of scalar field symmetry state are discussed within gauge theories of gravity. It is shown that nonsingular oscillating solutions of cosmological equations exist for this model. PACS: 04.50, 98.80Cq

Unsteady slip-flow of second grade non-Newtonian electrically conducting fluid over an oscillating sheet has been considered and solved numerically. A second-order slip velocity model is used to predict the flow characteristic past the wall. With the assumption of infinite length in x-direction, velocity of the fluid can be assumed as a function of y and t, hence, with proper variable change pa...
