In recent years there has been signiicant progress towards the solution of various versions of the pole placement problem. An important factor has been the behavioral theory which provided a simpliied framework to tackle many of these problems. In this short article we provide an overview on the achieved results and we give a list of open research questions in the area of pole placement.

The predictive pole-placement control method introduced in this paper embeds the classical pole-placement state feedback design into a quadratic optimisation based model-predictive formulation. This provides an alternative to model-predictive controllers which are based on linear-quadratic control. The theoretical properties of the controller in a linear continuous-time setting are presented an...

Pole placement is a well-established design method for linear control systems. Note however that with an output feedback controller of low-order such as PID one cannot achieve arbitrary pole placement for a high-order or delay system, and then partially or hopefully, dominant pole placement becomes the only choice. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no method is available in the literature ...

This paper deals with the direct solution of the pole placement problem by statederivative feedback for multi-input linear systems. The paper describes the solution of this pole placement problem for any controllable system with nonsingular system matrix and nonzero desired poles. Then closed-loop poles can be placed in order to achieve the desired system performance. The solving procedure resu...

Thispaper presents a new nonlinear controller design method for regional pole placement of uncertain discretetime systems. The constraint of control input saturation is considered in the design. A sufficient condition is derived for the robust stabilization and the desireddynamic performance represented by the settling time and damping ratio. The design is formulated in terms of linear matrix in...

Pole placement is a control method assigned to arbitrary closed loop poles by state or output feedback. In linear systems, poles have influence on stability, system response, and transient response of the system. The applications of pole placement technique in power system operation and control have been found a significant place over the years. This paper presents salient features of pole plac...

A robust version of the output controller design for discrete-time systems is introduced. Instead of a single stable point a stable polytope is preselected in the closed loop characteristic polynomial coefficient space. A constructive procedure for generating stable polytopes is given starting from the unit hypercube of reflection coefficients of monic polynomials. This procedure is quite strai...

In this paper, we describe a stabilization method for linear time-delay systems which extends the classical pole placement method for ordinary di7erential equations. Unlike methods based on :nite spectrum assignment, our method does not render the closed loop system, :nite dimensional but consists of controlling the rightmost eigenvalues. Because these are moved to the left half plane in a (qua...

The previously developed Predictive Pole Placement (PPP) controller is modified to give enhanced numerical and stability properties by embedding the method in a linear-quadratic formulation to give a linear-quadratic PPP (LQPPP) controller. Input, output and state constraints are considered using an natural quadratic programming (QP) formulation of LQPPP. Illustrative examples are given. Copyri...

Synchronization in chaotic systems has become an active area of research since the pioneering work of Pecora and Carroll. Most existing works, however, rely on a passive approach: A coupling between chaotic systems is necessary for their mutual synchronization. We describe here a feedback approach for synchronizing chaotic systems that is applicable in high dimensions. We show how two chaotic s...
