Monodisperse, spherical, polyethylene glycol (PEG)-coated silica nanoparticles have been prepared at room temperature and characterized for the purpose of biomedical applications. The particles were synthesized by the hydrolysis of tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS) in alcohol media under catalysis by ammonia, and their size can range from about 50-350 nm in diameter. We studied the particle size...

Chitosan functionalized Fe3O4-Au core shell nanoparticles have been prepared using a two-step wet chemical approach using NaBH4 as reducing agent for formation of Au in ethylene glycol. X-ray diffraction studies shows individual phases of Fe3O4 and Au in the as prepared samples with crystallite size of 5.9 and 11.4 nm respectively. The functionalization of the core-shell nanostructure with Chit...

Magnetic and fluorescent hydroxyapatite nanoparticles were synthesised using Al(OH)3-stabilised MnFe2O4 or Fe3O4 nanoparticles as precursors. They were readily and efficiently radiolabelled with (18)F. Bisphosphonate polyethylene glycol polymers were utilised to endow the nanoparticles with excellent colloidal stability in water and to incorporate cyclam for high affinity labelling with (64)Cu.

In this contribution, Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have been functionalized with a tetraphosphonate cavitand receptor (Tiiii), capable of complexing N-monomethylated species with high selectivity, and polyethylene glycol (PEG) via click-chemistry. The grafting process is based on MNP pre-functionalization with a bifunctional phosphonic linker, 10-undecynylphosphonic acid, anchored on an ...

In this study, magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4) with the size range of 20-30 nm were prepared by the modified controlled chemical co-precipitation method from the solution of ferrous/ferric mixed salt-solution in alkaline medium. In this process polyethylene glycol was used as a surfactant to prevent the solution from agglomeration. The prepared magnetic nanoparticles were characterize...

BACKGROUND Lead is one of the hazardous materials which is associated with pollution and toxicity problems. This paper describes a novel approach for removal of lead from wastewater. Although naked magnetic nanoparticles have been applied for removal of different pollutants from wastewater, there was no research on employment of covalently PEG modified magnetic nanoparticles for such purpose. ...

The objective of this study was to develop thin, biocompatible, and biofunctional hydrogel-coated small-sized nanoparticles that exhibit favorable stability, viability, and specific cellular uptake. This article reports the coating of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONPs) with covalently cross-linked biofunctional polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogel. Silanized MIONPs were derivatized with e...

Multimodal nanoparticulate materials are described, offering magnetic, radionuclide, and fluorescent imaging capabilities to exploit the complementary advantages of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography/single-photon emission commuted tomography (PET/SPECT), and optical imaging. They comprise Fe3O4@NaYF4 core/shell nanoparticles (NPs) with different cation dopants in th...

Concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Ca, Mg, K, and P were examined in untreated and ion exchange resin-treated solutions of polyethylene glycol, molecular weight 3000 to 3700, polyethylene glycol (PEG 4000). Relatively high levels of P were found in untreated PEF-4000 solutions. The concentration of contaminating P in solutions prepared from untreated PEG 4000, even at high water potentials (-1 t...
