The quenching rate constants of singlet oxygen by C60, H2@C60, D2@C6o, H2, and D2 in solution were measured. The presence of a hydrogen (H2@C60) or deuterium (D2@C60) molecule inside the fullerene did not produce any observable effect based on triplet lifetime or EPR measurements. However, a remarkable effect was found for the 1O2 quenching by C60, H2@C60, D2@C6o, H2, and D2. Singlet oxygen was...

Considering heavy forged parts presented that water spray is an appropriate technique as quenching operation. In general, the rapid cooling causes residual stress field due to the dis-homogeneity of the distribution of temperature in the part and the different microstructural phases. In comparison with other conventional quenching methods, spray-quenching method could have a capability to contr...

The distribution of p+ Gamow-Teller strength in 26Mg, 54Fe and 56Ni is calculated in the QRPA and large-basis shell-model spaces. The quenching relative to the simplest jj coupled model found in the QRPA is similar to that found in a shell-model basis which includes 2p2h ground-state correlations within the major shell (sd or pf). For 26Mg there is significant additional quenching found in the ...

We study the porous medium equation   = , 0 < < , > m t x t  0 t xx . We prove finite time quenching for the solution at the boundary . We also estabu u with a singular boundary condition       0, = 0, m x u t u   = 0 x lish the quenching rate and asymptotic behavior on the quenching point.

Stable room-temperature phosphorescence of guest aromatic molecules was achieved by the effective suppression of oxygen quenching. The organic capsule (first wall) suppressed static oxygen quenching by enclosing a guest molecule, and dynamic quenching via the capsule opening-closing process was well suppressed and manipulated by the intercalation of this capsule into the restrictive space betwe...

In this paper, we study the finite time quenching phenomenon of a nonlinear diffusion equation with nonlinear source and singular boundary flux. It is shown that the solution must quench in a finite time and the time derivative blows up at a quenching point. The quenching set and rate are determined.

We performed transient absorption (TA) measurements on CP29 minor light-harvesting complexes that were reconstituted in vitro with either violaxanthin (Vio) or zeaxanthin (Zea) and demonstrate that the Zea-bound CP29 complexes exhibit charge-transfer (CT) quenching that has been correlated with the energy-dependent quenching (qE) in higher plants. Simulations of the difference TA kinetics revea...

The photosystem II (PSII) subunit S (PsbS) plays a key role in nonphotochemical quenching, a photoprotective mechanism for dissipation of excess excitation energy in plants. The precise function of PsbS in nonphotochemical quenching is unknown. By reconstituting PsbS together with the major light-harvesting complex of PSII (LHC-II) and the xanthophyll zeaxanthin (Zea) into proteoliposomes, we h...

Lichens, a symbiotic relationship between a fungus (mycobiont) and a photosynthetic green algae or cyanobacteria (photobiont), belong to an elite group of survivalist organisms termed resurrection species. When lichens are desiccated, they are photosynthetically inactive, but upon rehydration they can perform photosynthesis within seconds. Desiccation is correlated with both a loss of variable ...

Experimentally, quenching from warmer water leads to faster freezing than quenching from colder waterthe Mpemba effect. Using molecular dynamics, we find that quenching water from 370 K and above leads to a 100 K density of states (DOS) closer to that of ice than quenching from 300 K and below. Especially we find that the biggest difference is for 80−160 cm−1 which upon quenching from colder w...
