Abstract Background and Objective: Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori) infection is related to chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer. Thus, identification and treatment of the infection have a considerable importance. The aim of this study was to compare three methods of Histopathology, Culture and Rapid Urease test (RUT) in identification of H. Pylori in gastric bio...

Purpose: To develop a multiplex-urease PCR assay specific for ureA and ureB genes directly from gastric biopsy specimens and compare the results of multiplex-urease PCR assay with rapid urease test (RUT) and histopathology. Methodology: This study was conducted on 109 patients. A RUT was run; histopathological staining and multiplex urease PCR were applied to biopsy specimen to detect H. pylori...

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) remains a prevalent chronic infection in the developing countries. H.pylori is an important agent associated with peptic ulcer disease, chronic gastritis and gastric malignancies. It can be detected by various invasive (rapid urease test and histology) and non-invasive tests (stool antigen test, urea breath test and serology). The aim of this study was to compare...

The Leifson staining method was used to diagnose Helicobacter pylori infection and was compared to histology, culture, and the rapid urease test (RUT). Histology gave the best sensitivity (98%), compared to Leifson staining (97%), culture (92%), and RUT (85%) (P < 0.005). Leifson staining is a sensitive, rapid, economical method for diagnosis of H. pylori infection in dyspeptic patients.

BACKGROUND The rapid urease test (RUT) is used at Groote Schuur Hospital for diagnosing Helicobacter pylori infection. This is an in-house method, which has not been validated. OBJECTIVE To validate our practice of reading the RUT immediately after endoscopy (RUT(0)), by comparing this with a reading at 24 hours (RUT(24)) and with histological analysis. DESIGN Ninety consecutive patients un...

Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is considered as one of the most prevalent gastric infections which cause chronic gastritis and predispose to cancer stomach. So, diagnosis and eradication should be rapid to decrease the risk of gastric cancer. Aim of the study: To evaluate the role of rapid urease test (RUT) and faecal antigen test (FAT) added to serological test for rapid diagnosis...

Background and Aims: Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori) is the microorganism that infects nearly half of word's population. There are several invasive and non-invasive methods for diagnosis of infection. The main objective of this study was to evaluate antigen of H. Pylori in feces with H. pylori stool antigen (HpSA) test and comparison with rapid urease test (RUT) in the patients suspected to be ...

Aims. To investigate H. pylori infection rate and evaluate a combined set of tests for H. pylori diagnosis in Vietnamese patients with acute peptic ulcer bleeding (PUD). Methods. Consecutive patients with acute PUB were enrolled prospectively. Rapid urease test (RUT) with 3 biopsies was carried out randomly. Patients without RUT or with negative RUT received urea breath test (UBT) and serologic...
