we design a novel nano-ring resonator using two-dimensional photonic crystal (2d-phc), for bio-sensing applications. the structure of biosensor is created by two-curve-shaped ring resonator which sandwiched by two waveguides. these are configured by removing one row of air holes. the refractive index of sensing hole is changed by binding an analyte. hence, intensity of the transmission spectrum...

Nanocavity resonators in metals acting as nanofluidic refractive-index sensors were analyzed theoretically. With the illumination of transverse electric polarized light, the proposed refractive index sensor structure acts as a pure electromagnetic resonator without the excitation of surface plasmons. The reflected signal from the nanocavity resonators can be very sensitive to the refractive ind...

A double-periodic array of pairs of parallel gold nanorods is shown to have a negative refractive index in the optical range. Such behavior results from the plasmon resonance in the pairs of nanorods for both the electric and the magnetic components of light. The refractive index is retrieved from direct phase and amplitude measurements for transmission and reflection, which are all in excellen...

For the first time exact analytical solutions to the eikonal equations in (1+ 1) dimensions with a refractive index being a saturated function of intensity are constructed. It is demonstrated that the solutions exhibit collapse; an explicit analytical expression for the self-focusing position, where the intensity tends to infinity, is found. Based on an approximated Lie symmetry group, solution...

The cell refractive index has been proposed as a putative cancer biomarker of great potential, being correlated with cell content and morphology, cell division rate and membrane permeability. We used digital holographic microscopy to compare the refractive index and dry mass density of two B16 murine melanoma sublines of different metastatic potential. Using statistical methods, the distributio...

This paper represents the ability of the newly introduced One-dimensional Rainbow Technique (ORT) to characterize the evaporation of monodispersed droplet in the large range of environment temperature. At the low temperature (room temperature), the small change of drop size is measured from the phase shift of ripple structure. The size change, as small as 10 nm for 80 μm droplet, can be measure...

A non-destructive technique is presented to determine the refractive index profile of holey fiber preforms. The holes are filled with index matching oil and the holey preform deflection data is measured. An improved optical path-length formula and back projection method is used to reconstruct the two-dimensional filled holey fiber preform refractive index distribution.

SiO(2)-TiO(2) thin films for use as fiber optic guiding layers of optical DNA biosensors were fabricated by the sol-gel dip coating technique. The chemical structure and the surface morphology of the films were characterized before immobilization. Single probe DNA strands were immobilized on the surface and the porosity of the films before the hybridization process was measured. Refractive inde...

The refractive index is an optical constant that plays a significant role in the description of light-matter interactions. When it comes to biological media, refraction is understudied despite recent advances in the field of bio-optics. In the present article, we report on the measurement of the refractive properties of freshly excised healthy and cancerous human liver samples, by use of a pris...

Sensitivity analysis and validation of the proposed refractive index estimation method with ground based atmospheric polarized radiance measurement data is conducted. Through the sensitivity analysis, it is found that Degree of Polarization: DP is highly dependent upon surface reflectance followed by imaginary and real part of refractive index and Junge parameter. DP at 550nm is greater than th...
