Sediment selectivity during transport may provide basic information for evaluating on-site and off-site impacts of the soil erosion. Limited information is, however, available on the selectivity of sediments in rill erosion, particularly in the rainfed furrows. Toward this, the sediment selectivity was investigated in three soil textures (loam, loamy sand sand clay loam) under 10% slope using 9...

The revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE), the sediment delivery distributed (SEDD) model, and ArcView GIS were used to estimate the impacts of no-till practice on soil erosion and sediment yield in Pataha Creek Watershed, a typical dryland agricultural watershed in southeastern Washington. The results showed that the average cell soil loss decreased from 11.09 to 3.10 t/ha yr for the wh...

Incremental learning of classi cation rules from data streams with concept drift is considered. We introduce a new algorithm RILL, which induces rules and single instances, uses bottom-up rule generalization based on nearest rules, and performs intensive pruning of the obtained rule set. Its experimental evaluation shows that it achieves better classi cation accuracy and memory usage than the r...

This paper contributes to the theory of substructural logics .that are of interest to categorial grammarians. Combining semantic ideas of Hepple [1990] and Mor-rill [1990], proof-theoretic ideas of Venema [1993b; 1993a] and the theory of equational specifications, a class of resource-preserving logics is defined, for which decidability and completeness theorems are established.

We introduce a new model for rill erosion. We start with a network similar to that in the Discrete Web** and instantiate a dynamics which makes the process highly non-Markovian. The behavior of nodes in the streams is similar to the behavior of Polya urns with time-dependent input. In this paper we use a combination of rigorous arguments and simulation results.

Rill erosion is the first step in soil erosion process in the hillslopes, particularly in arid and semiarid regions. This study was conducted to investigate the role of rainfall intensity and raindrop impact on the physical properties of soils and particle detachment capacity (Dc) in a marl soil. Marl soil samples were filled into the flumes with 4 m long and 0.9 m wide and exposed to simulated...

The development of rills on a hillslope whose soil is amended by biochar remains topic to be developed. A theoretical rill flow resistance equation, obtained the integration power velocity distribution, was assessed using available measurements at plot scale with added soil. incorporated and mixed arable content BC 6 12 kg m−2. developed analysis demonstrated that an accurate estimate profile p...

This issue of Sleep Science contains two excellent review articles by Garcia-Rill and his colleagues examining the role of reticular activating system, especially the pedunculopontine (PPT) nucleus, in the pathophysiology of insomnia, schizophrenia, and other neuropsychiatric disorders [1,2]. The PPT nucleus is one of the major aggregations of cholinergic neurons in the mammalian brainstem capa...
