BACKGROUND Failure to generate phagocyte-derived superoxide and related reactive oxygen intermediates (ROIs) is the major defect in chronic granulomatous disease, causing recurrent infections and granulomatous complications. Chronic granulomatous disease is caused by missense, nonsense, frameshift, splice, or deletion mutations in the genes for p22(phox), p40(phox), p47(phox), p67(phox) (autoso...

Background Infarct size following STEMI carries prognostic significance. Current CMR methods for measuring abnormal myocardium are based on detecting pixels above a certain intensity threshold. This threshold is often defined from a ROI as the mean plus a number (nSD) of standard deviations. This method assumes that the ROI is “normal” and not affected by disease, and is sensitive both to the c...

We focus on applications where a remote client needs to visualize or process a complex, manifold triangle mesh, M, but only in a relatively small, user controlled, Region of Interest (RoI) at a time. The client first downloads a coarse base mesh, pre-computed on the server via a series of simplification passes on M, one per Level of Detail (LoD), each pass identifying an independent set of tria...

In diagnostic follow-ups of diseases, such as calcium scoring in kidney or fat content assessment in liver using repeated CT scans, quantitatively accurate and consistent CT values are desirable at a low cost of radiation dose to the patient. Region of-interest (ROI) imaging technique is considered a reasonable dose reduction method in CT scans for its shielding geometry outside the ROI. Howeve...

Aerial surveillance from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), i. e. with moving cameras, is of growing interest for police as well as disaster area monitoring. For more detailed ground images the camera resolutions are steadily increasing. Simultaneously the amount of video data to transmit is increasing significantly, too. To reduce the amount of data, Region of Interest (ROI) coding systems were ...

The purpose of this paper is to review several modalities that can be helpful in evaluating right-ventricular (RV) function. We have investigated the role of functional imaging in analysis of regional RV function and in selection of RV region of interest (ROI). From this we have derived a method to determine the RV ejection fraction using a single RV ROI. The analysis is performed in a modified...

Traditional techniques for deforming virtual 3D models require the user to explicitly define a set of control points, a region of interest (ROI), and to define precisely how to deform the ROI using the control points. In this paper we present SEED, a sketch-based 3D model deformation approach, which allows the user to perform a deformation using only a single control stroke, eliminating the nee...

Recently, in the compressed sensing framework we proved that an interior ROI can be exactly reconstructed via the total variation minimization if the ROI is piecewise constant. In the proofs, we implicitly utilized the property that if an artifact image assumes a constant value within the ROI, then this constant must be zero. Here we prove this property in the space of square integrable functions.

One interesting feature of the new JPEG2000 image coding standard is support of region of interest (ROI) coding using the maximum shift (Maxshift) method, which allows for arbitrarily shaped ROI image compression without shape coding or explicitly transmitting any shape information to the decoder. The major disadvantage of the Maxshift method is that it cannot adjust the scaling value which det...
