A semi-infinite programming problem is an optimization problem in which finitely many variables appear in infinitely many constraints. This model naturally arises in an abundant number of applications in different fields of mathematics, economics and engineering. The present paper intends to give a short introduction into the field and to present some preliminary discussion on the complexity of...

In this paper, an unconstrained convex programming dual approach for solving a class of linear semi-infinite programming problems is proposed. Both primal and dual convergence results are established under some basic assumptions. Numerical examples are also included to illustrate this approach.

This work presents a stochastic outer approximation algorithm to solve air pollution control problem while minimizing the control costs which thereby occur. These air quality standards give rise to an infinite number of constraints and this is a semi-infinite programming problem.

A novel straightforward, accessible and efficient approach is presented for performing hyperspectral time-domain diffuse optical spectroscopy to determine the optical properties of samples accurately using geometry specific models. To allow bulk parameter recovery from measured spectra, a set of libraries based on a numerical model of the domain being investigated is developed as opposed to the...

The problem of heat conduction in one-dimensional piecewise homogeneous composite materials is examined by providing an explicit solution of the one-dimensional heat equation in each domain. The location of the interfaces is known, but neither temperature nor heat flux is prescribed there. Instead, the physical assumptions of their continuity at the interfaces are the only conditions imposed. T...

In this article, we introduce a fractional order of rational Bessel functions collocation method (FRBC) for solving the Thomas-Fermi equation. The problem is defined in the semi-infinite domain and has a singularity at x = 0 and its boundary condition occurs at infinity. We solve the problem on the semi-infinite domain without any domain truncation or transformation of the domain of the problem...

This paper describes the applications of the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) as a mesh-free numerical method for the Stokes’ first and second problems which prevail in the semi-infinite domain with constant and oscillatory velocity at the boundary in the fluid-mechanics benchmark problems. The time-dependent fundamental solutions for the semi-infinite problems are used directly to obtain ...
