Polar II–VI semiconductors can nucleate in complex shapes ranging from nanowires to nanoribbons, nanosaws and multipods. Here we demonstrate the deterministic and fully reproducible shape-selective growth of several morphologies of CdSe and ZnTe nanocrystals by a steady-state vapour transport process. A simple pressure-based precursor-flow shutter excludes any effects of temperature ramping, en...
In2O3 semiconductor nanowires were synthesized by the chemical vapor deposition method through carbon thermal reduction at 900 degrees C with 95% Ar and 5% O2 gas flow. The In2O3 nanowires were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL). For the first time, we observed t...
Doped Semiconductor Nanocrystals: Synthesis, Characterization, Physical Properties, and Applications
This review focuses on recent progress in the study of doped semiconductor nanocrystals prepared by direct solution chemical routes. The emphasis is on materials that can be prepared and handled as high-quality colloidal nanocrystalline suspensions, allowing them to be easily processed by a variety of conventional methods and incorporated into glasses, polymers, or hetero-architectures, appende...
Heterogeneous semiconductor photoredox catalysis (SCPC), particularly with TiO2, is evolving to provide radically new synthetic applications. In this review we describe how photoactivated SCPCs can either (i) interact with a precursor that donates an electron to the semiconductor thus generating a radical cation; or (ii) interact with an acceptor precursor that picks up an electron with product...
Alloyed Zn(1-x-y)Cd(x)Mn(y)Se nanocrystals exhibiting bright intrinsic dual emission attractive for ratiometric optical nanothermometry are reported. Relative to earlier materials with related dual emission, these alloy nanocrystals require shorter syntheses, contain less Cd(2+), and show dual emission that is less sensitive to nanocrystal shape, size, or surfaces.
Current synthetic techniques to high-quality quantum dots (“QD’s”) involve organometallic precursors that are hazardous and expensive and require they be rapidly injected into an extremely hot solvent to form the QD’s. A new method for synthesizing high-quality CdSe QD’s while circumventing these problems has been developed. Different cadmium salts were studied as Cd precursors alternative to d...
