Procedures have been developed for estimating cystine content of proteins by reducing disulfide bonds with mercaptoethanol and selectively alkylating the generated sulfhydryl groups with 4-vinylpyridine or 2-vinylquinoline. 4-Vinylpyridine reacts with cysteine to produce S-,B-(4-pyridylethyl)cysteine (Pe-cysteine), which can be determined in protein hydrolysates either by ion-exchange chromatog...

The utility of Patton and Reeder’s indicator, HHSNNA, for the trace spectrophotometric and visual colorimetric determination of Cu 2+ is explored. A wine red complex of composition 1:1 is found to be formed between Cu 2+ and HHSNNA. The complex has λmax at 530 nm with ε = 25,558 L mole -1 cm -1 and is stable for more than 2 hrs. Beer’s law is obeyed between 0 to 1.5 ppm. The developed procedure...

Simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination of chlorodiazepoxide drugs in pharmaceutical dosage forms. This method is based on ion pair and charge transfer complexation reactions. The method is based on the reaction of the chlorodiazepoxide drug with Mo(V)–thiocyanate in hydrochloric acid medium followed by an extraction of the coloured ion-pair w...

A spectrophotometric method for the determination of chlorine, bromine or iodine ion by using1,5-bis(6-methy1-4-pyrimidyl)carbazone has been established. The ranges of determination were0.355-3.55ppm of Cl-,0.799-7.99ppm of Br and1.27-12.7ppm of F.The proposed method could be applied to the analyses of various halogen-containing organic compounds, including sulfur-containing compounds.Eleven comm...

Firstand second-order derivative spectrophotometric methods for the quantitative determination by converting menadione sodium bisulphite (MSB) to menadione (M ) with sodium carbonate were developed and validated in pharmaceutical preparation. The quantitative determination of MSB was carried out by using wavelengths 350 nm (for first-order; 1D) and 355 nm (for second-order; 2D) with the lineari...

A simple, precise economical and fast visible spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Itopride hydrochloride in tablet dosage form. Developed is based on formation of extractable colored complex of drug with coloring agent mordant blue 3. A wavelength maximum was found to 471.0 nm. Linearity was observed 30-70 mg /mL. The proposed method describes the determination...

To develop a new more accurate spectrophotometric method for detecting monoamine oxidase inhibitors from plant extracts, a series of amine substrates were selected and their ability to be oxidized by monoamine oxidase was evaluated by the HPLC method and a new substrate was used to develop a peroxidase-linked spectrophotometric assay. 4-(Trifluoromethyl) benzylamine (11) was proved to be an exc...

The rate of diffusion through the non-aqueous layer of the protoplasm depends largely on the partition coefficients mentioned above. Since these cannot be determined we have employed an artificial system in which chloroform is used in place of the non-aqueous layer of the protoplasm. The partition coefficients may be roughly determined by shaking up the aqueous solutions with chloroform and ana...
