In this paper, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assisted cooperative communication system is studied, wherein a source transmits information to the destination through an energy harvesting decode-and-forward UAV. It is assumed that the UAV can freely move in between the source-destination pair to set up line of sight communications with the both nodes. Since the battery of the UAV may be limite...

Quadratic Assignment Problems (QAPs) are known to be among the most challenging discrete optimization problems. Recently, a new class of semi-definite relaxation (SDR) models for QAPs based on matrix splitting has been proposed [25, 28]. In this paper, we consider the issue of how to choose an appropriate matrix splitting scheme so that the resulting relaxation model is easy to solve and able t...

In this work, we propose a novel K-ary splitting method for regression trees and incorporate it into the regression forest framework. Unlike standard binary splitting, where the splitting rule is selected from a predefined set of binary splitting rules via trial-and-error, the proposed K-ary splitting method first finds clusters of the training data which at least locally minimize the empirical...

Operator splitting is a numerical method of computing the solution to a differential equation. The splitting method separates the original equation into two parts over a time step, separately computes the solution to each part, and then combines the two separate solutions to form a solution to the original equation. A canonical example is splitting of diffusion terms and convection terms in a c...

Quadratic Assignment Problems (QAPs) are known to be among the most challenging discrete optimization problems. Recently, a new class of semi-definite relaxation models for QAPs based on matrix splitting has been proposed [17, 20]. In this paper, we consider the issue of how to choose an appropriate matrix splitting scheme so that the resulting relaxation model can provide a strong bound. For t...

BACKGROUND Fee splitting is a process whereby a physician refers a patient to another physician or a healthcare facility and receives a portion of the charge in return. This survey was conducted to study general practitioners' (GPs) attitudes toward fee splitting as well as the prevalence, causes, and consequences of this process. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study on 223 general practit...

This paper investigates power splitting for fullduplex relay networks with wireless information and energy transfer. By applying power splitting as a relay transceiver architecture, the full duplex information relaying can be powered by energy harvested from the source-emitted radio frequency signal. In order to minimize outage probability, power splitting ratios have been dynamically optimized...

In machine learning, one of the main requirements is to build computational models with a high ability to generalize well the extracted knowledge. When training e.g. artificial neural networks, poor generalization is often characterized by over-training. A common method to avoid over-training is the hold-out crossvalidation. The basic problem of this method represents, however, appropriate data...

This paper addresses the question of factoring a logic into families of (generally simpler) components, estimating the top– down perspective, splitting, versus the bottom–up, splicing. Three methods are carefully analyzed and compared: possible–translations semantics, nondeterministic semantics and plain fibring (joint with its particularization, direct union of matrices). The possibilities of ...

We compare the observed splitting in the PL spectrum of a strongly coupled light-matter system, with the splitting of its dressed modes. In the presence of non-negligible decoherence, the two may differ considerably. Whereas the dressed mode splitting has a simple expression, the observed splitting has no general analytical expression in terms of radicals of the system parameters.
