Chiral aziridine sulfides and disulfides were synthesized from readily available and inexpensive R-cysteine by a Mitsunobu reaction; their application in the addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes provides secondary alcohols with up to 99% ee and S-configuration.

A new approach that centers on modulating the hydrophobic-hydrophilic balance by conversion of pendant disulfides to thiols and further to sulfides enables facile tuning of the thermoresponsive properties of thiol-responsive copolymers.

A new rhodium(I) catalyst allows practical and efficient alkyne carbothiolation reactions to be achieved on synthetically useful ketone-bearing aryl methyl sulfides. The carbothiolation adducts, featuring a 'recycled methyl sulfide' activating group, are convenient precursors to highly substituted isoquinolines.

New selective coating materials are developed and used in advanced solar collector and absorber designs with improved efficiency. Cobalt and Copper sulfides nanoparticles are high interest for absorbers of solar thermal collectors due to their optical properties and high absorptance in the solar wavelength range (> 96%). In the present work, Cobalt and Copper sulfides nanoparticles were synthes...

The variety of lithologies from Late Precambrian to Quaternary and suitable conditions for mineralization caused formation of Zarshuran gold and arsenic deposit in black schists, shale, limestone and dolomite. The ore paragenesis include As, Sb, Fe, Pb, Zn, Hg sulfides and gold along with fluorite, barite and quartz. The most important alteration is silicification which is more obvious in the o...

The selective oxidation of sulfides into sulfoxides receives much attention due to industrial and biological applications. However, the realization of this reaction with molecular oxygen at room temperature, which is of importance towards green and sustainable chemistry, remains challenging. Herein, we develop a strategy to achieve the aerobic oxidation of sulfides into sulfoxides by exploring ...

To explain the elevated osmium isotope (186Os-187Os) signatures in oceanic basalts, the possibility of material flux from the metallic core into the crust has been invoked. This hypothesis conflicts with theoretical constraints on Earth's thermal and dynamic history. To test the veracity and uniqueness of elevated 186Os-187Os in tracing core-mantle exchange, we present highly siderophile elemen...

Skin cancer is a serious concern whose incidence is increasing at an alarming rate. Allyl sulfides-i.e., sulfur metabolites in garlic oil-have been demonstrated to have anticancer activity against several cancer types, although the mechanisms underlying these effects remain enigmatic. Our previous study showed that diallyl trisulfide (DATS) is more potent than mono- and disulfides against skin ...
