Surface plasmon resonances in metallic nanoparticles are of interest for a variety of applications due to the large electromagnetic field enhancement that occurs in the vicinity of the metal surface, and the dependence of the resonance wavelength on the nanoparticle’s size, shape, and local dielectric environment. Here we report an engineered enhancement of optical absorption and photocurrent i...

We report abnormally large positive and negative lateral optical beam shifts at a metal–air interface when the surface plasmon resonance of the metal is excited. The optimal thickness for minimal resonant reflection is identified as the critical thickness above which a negative beam displacement is observed. Experimental results show good agreement with theoretical predictions and the large obs...

Single gold nanorods exhibit great opportunities for bio-sensing, enhanced spectroscopies and photothermal therapy. A key property of these particles is the surface plasmon resonance, that is strongly dependent on their shape. Methods for tuning this resonance after the synthesis of the particles are of great interest for many applications. In this work we show that, through very well known che...

A plasmon waveguide resonance (PWR) sensor is designed, fabricated, and tested for self-referenced biosensing. The PWR sensor is able to support two different polarizations, TM and TE. The TM polarization has a large sensitivity to variations in the background refractive index while the TE polarization is more sensitive to the surface properties. The ability of the PWR sensor to simultaneously ...

In this paper, the plasmon coupling effect between two gold nanospheres on a gold slab is investigated. At plasmon resonance frequencies, electrons on the surface of the slab are absorbed into spheres and contribute to plasmon oscillation. This effect can enhance the local electric field and optical coupling force between the two spheres.

Because of the sensitivity to refractive index changes, plasmonics nanostructures have been investigated broadly for the bio-molecules detection through the excitations of the propagating surface plasmon resonance (PSPR) or localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). PSPR sensors can detect sub-monolayer quantities of bio-molecules at the gold film surface and provide real-time data through con...

The computer modeling is carried out for parameter of sensitivity of optoelectronic chemical and biosensors, using phenomena of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The physical model of SPR-sensor’s is described with (or without) of modifications of sensitive gold film surface by a dielectric layer. The variants of increasing of sensitivity for SPR-biosensors, constructed on the principle gold – d...
