Objective(s): Metastasis is the main cause of death in patients with melanoma. Cannabis-based medicines are effective adjunctive drugs in cancer patients. Tau and Stathmin proteins are the key proteins in cancer metastasis. Here we have investigated the effect of a standardized Cannabis sativa extract on cell migration and Tau and Stathmin gene expression in the melanoma cell line. Materials an...

Using a sample of tagged D(s)(+) decays collected near the D(s)(*+/-)D(s)(-/+) peak production energy in e(+)e(-) collisions with the CLEO-c detector, we study the leptonic decay D(s)(+)-->tau(+)nu(tau) via the decay channel tau(+)-->e(+)nu(e)nu(tau). We measure B(D(s)(+)-->tau(+)nu(tau))=(6.17+/-0.71+/-0.34)%, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. Combining this resul...

INTRODUCTION Accumulation of insoluble conformationally altered hyperphosphorylated tau occurs as part of the pathogenic process in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other tauopathies. In most AD subjects, wild-type (WT) tau aggregates and accumulates in neurofibrillary tangles and dystrophic neurites in the brain; however, in some familial tauopathy disorders, mutations in the gene encoding tau cau...

BACKGROUND Intracellular filamentous deposits containing microtubule-associated protein tau constitute a defining characteristic of many neurodegenerative disorders. Current experimental models to study tau pathology in vitro do not usually recapitulate the tau expression pattern characteristic of adult human brain. In this study, we have investigated whether human embryonic stem cell-derived n...

The hyperphosphorylated microtubule-associated protein tau is present in several neurodegenerative diseases, although the causal relationship remains elusive. Few mouse models used to study Alzheimer-like dementia target tau phosphorylation. We created an inducible pseudophosphorylated tau (Pathological Human Tau, PH-Tau) mouse model to study the effect of conformationally modified tau in vivo....

We have reported previously a tau transgenic mouse model (Tg30tau) overexpressing human 4R1N double-mutant tau (P301S and G272V) and that develops AD (Alzheimer's disease)-like NFTs (neurofibrillary tangles) in an age-dependent manner. Since murine tau might interfere with the toxic effects of human mutant tau, we set out to analyse the phenotype of our Tg30tau model in the absence of endogenou...

Fig. 4. Analysis of fully fed vs DR food effects on tau levels and phosphorylation in flies over-expressing WT human tau. (A) Tau expression and phosphorylation levels were measured by western blotting in control flies (welav/+, w;UAS-4Rtau/+), and at the indicated time points in welav/+;UAS-4Rtau/+flies treated on1.0 vs 2.0 Y medium. Primary antibodies were as follows: Anti-tau (total tau; Dak...

Pearson’s correlation coefficient is considered a measure of linear association between bivariate random variables X and Y. It recommended not to use it for other forms associations. Indeed, nonlinear monotonic associations alternative measures like Spearman’s rank Kendall’s tau coefficients are more appropriate. These views or opinions on the estimation strongly rooted in statistical empirical...

The tau subunit of Escherichia coli DNA polymerase III holoenzyme interacts with the alpha subunit through its C-terminal Domain V, tau(C)16. We show that the extreme C-terminal region of tau(C)16 constitutes the site of interaction with alpha. The tau(C)16 domain, but not a derivative of it with a C-terminal deletion of seven residues (tau(C)16Delta7), forms an isolable complex with alpha. Sur...

Tau, a microtubule associated protein, aggregates into intracellular paired helical filaments (PHFs) by an unknown mechanism in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other tauopathies. A contributing factor may be a failure to metabolize free cytosolic tau within the neuron. The buildup of tau may then drive the aggregation process through mass action. Therefore, proteases that normally degrade tau are ...
