Angioleiomyoma (vascular myoma) is a rare type of leiomyoma originating from smooth muscle cells and containing thick-walled vessels. There are only a few cases of retroperitoneal angioleiomyoma reported in the literature. Herein, we present the ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging and histopathological findings of an asymptomatic patient with a pelvic retroperitoneal angioleiomyoma whic...

Angiomyolipoma (AML) are benign tumours composed of varying amounts of thick-walled dysplastic blood vessels, smooth muscle and mature adipose tissue derived from epithelioid cells. We present a previously unreported occurrence of multi-focal pancreatic and hepatic AMLs in a patient and discuss the diagnostic and management difficulties associated with this rare disease. In addition relevant ca...

Cystic artery pseudoaneurysm (CAP) is a very rare complication of acute cholecystitis. We present the unruptured cystic artery pseudoaneurysm of an oedematous, thick-walled gallbladder in a 71-year old gentleman admitted with acute calculus cholecystitis. This was managed by radiological microcoil embolisation, percutaneous drainage of pericholic fluid and conservative treatment with antibiotics.

Fonsecaea pedrosoi is the main agent of chromoblastomycosis, a skin disease presenting verrucous lesions, in which round, thick-walled sclerotic cells are found. In vitro induction of sclerotic cells is time-consuming (20 to 45 days) and temperature dependent. We present two new natural media that reduce the sclerotic-cell induction time to only 2 days.

Corynebacterium group JK organisms were isolated from lung fluid aspirated with a fine needle from one of four thick-walled cavitary lesions in a 72-year-old female. Cultures and stains for mycobacteria and fungi were negative. The patient was successfully treated with an 8-week course of vancomycin.

Fig. 2 : CECT abdomen showing pneumobilia. abdomen (erect) showed multiple air fluid levels with pneumobilia and supine view showed large stone (Fig. 1). CECT abdomen revealed enterolith in mid small bowel with proximal jejunal obstruction with collapsed thick walled gall bladder with pneumobilia (Fig. 2) and cholecystoduodenal fistula. Laparoscopy revealed inflamed gut, 5 cms stone was extract...

Torsional vibrations of composite poroelastic dissipative spherical shell are investigated in the framework of Biot’s extension theory. Here composite poroelastic spherical shell consists of two spherical shells, one is placed on other, and both are made of different poroelastic materials. Consideration of the stress-free boundaries of outer surface and the perfect bonding between two shells lea...

Villi are ubiquitous structures in the intestine of all vertebrates, originating from the embryonic development of the epithelial mucosa. Their morphogenesis has similar stages in living organisms but different forming mechanisms. In this work, we model the emergence of the bi-dimensional undulated patterns in the intestinal mucosa from which villi start to elongate. The embryonic mucosa is mod...

The structure of controlled high-strain-rate shear bands generated in Ti-Si reactive powders has been investigated by means of the radd symmetric collapse of a thick-walled cylinder. Shear localization developed at global strains of 0.2-0.4 and a strain rate of lo4 s-I. Within the shear bands, local shear strains were up to 100 9d local shear strain rates were lo7 s-'. Chemical reactions were i...

In the cardiac left ventricle during systole mechanical load of the myocardial fibers is distributed uniformly. A mechanism is proposed by which control of mechanical load is distributed over many individual control units acting in the environment of the cell. The mechanics of the equatorial region of the left ventricle was modeled by a thick-walled cylinder composed of 6-1500 shells of myocard...
