The mechanism of surfactant-assisted dispersion of single-walled carbon nanotubes in water is studied by small-angle neutron scattering. The previously hypothesized formation of cylindrical micelles with the nanotubes forming the core of cylinders is inconsistent with the data presented. The scattering data favor a random structureless adsorption model for the dispersion of the nanotubes.

In modelling the behavior of thick-walled metal shells under compressive loads, use J2 flow theory can lead to unrealistic buckling estimates, while alternative ‘corner’ models, despite offering good predictions, have not been widely adopted for structural computations due their complexity. The present work develops a new and efficient plasticity model predicting response compressed shells. It ...

We report a highly ordered intercalated hexagonal binary superlattice of hydrophilically functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (p-SWNTs) and surfactant (C12 E5 ) cylindrical micelles. When p-SWNTs (with a diameter slightly larger than that of the C12 E5 cylinders) were added to the hexagonally packed C12 E5 cylindrical-micellar system, p-SWNTs positioned themselves in such a way that th...

Three new genera are established in the Sordariomycetidae based on morphological and molecular data (SSU and LSU nrDNA) to accommodate five ascomycete species collected from submerged woody debris in freshwater habitats from Costa Rica. The genus Bullimyces contains three new species, B. communis, B. costaricensis and B. aurisporus. Bullimyces is characterized by globose to subglobose, membrano...
