Comparison of skinfold thicknesses measured in childhood and again 15 years later in 318 male and 303 female subjects disclosed only a moderate relation between the two measurements. Where adult fatness could be predicted from combinations of skinfold thicknesses in childhood the accuracy in 95% of cases lay at the mean between +/- 8% and +/- 18% according to age and sex.

We show that geometric thickness and book thickness are not asymptotically equivalent: for every t, there exists a graph with geometric thickness two and book thickness ≥ t.

The thickness of a graph is the minimum number of planar subgraphs into which the graph can be decomposed. This note discusses some recent attempts to determine upper bounds for the thickness of a graph as a function of the number of edges or as a function of its maximum degree.

Physical knots and links are one-dimensional submanifolds of R with fixed length and thickness. We show that isotopy classes in this category can differ from those of classical knot and link theory. In particular we exhibit a Gordian Split Link, a two component link that is split in the classical theory but cannot be split with a physical isotopy.

Once we have established the appropriate estimates, we introduce a rescaling operator which allows to work in a fixed domain. Then, we give the limit of the displacements and we show a few relations between some of them. Since some of the a priori estimates established depend on the variable thickness we introduce some weighted Sobolev spaces which allow to obtain the limit fields in a natural ...

Anthropometric and biochemical data was collected in 195 unmarried Lady Health Visitostudents. The subjects were 16-25 years old. Fifty-six percent were underweight. Triceps skinfold thickness was less than the standard value in 57% cases. Average biochemical values were within the normal range. However, in 6% cases cholesterol values were abnormally high while in 12% low levels were encountered...

The asymptotic behaviour of the smallest eigenvalue in linear Koiter shell problems is studied, as the thickness parameter tends to zero. In particular, three types of shells of revolution are considered. A result concerning the ratio between the bending and the total elastic energy is also provided, by using the general theory detailed in [2, 3].

Educational online technologies (EOTs) have revolutionised the delivery of online education, making a large contribution towards the global increase in demand for higher learning. Educationalists have striven to adapt through knowledge development and application of online tools, but making educationally sound choices about technology has proved challenging, amidst the extensive and largely unc...

Weight, length, and skinfold thicknesses were measured in 4634 term and preterm neonates. Sex and weight/length ratio were important determinants of the amount and distribution of the subcutaneous fat store at birth. Gestational age, weight, length, and other ponderal indices did not explain subcutaneous fat variability.
