Recently, specialized applications of 3D printing have extended into the biological realm. As the field is so new, related activities are being approached from groups with disparate specialties and backgrounds. Therefore, few firm, unambiguous and universally understood definitions have been established. Many have local and connotative meanings, and most have both unique and overlapping aspects...

OBJECTIVE The use of stone and plaster study models is an integral part of any dental practice and is required for research. Storage of study models is problematic in terms of space and cost. Ayoub et al.(1) introduced a new technique based on the recent advances in stereophotogrammetry for archiving dental study models in a digital format. However, assessment of the accuracy of the generated t...

This paper presents gold passivated dense NiW mechanically flexible interconnects (MFIs) for advanced 3D heterogeneous IC integration. The MFIs are fabricated with a pitch as small as 25 μm, a maximum height of 65 μm, and can be engineered to provide a wide range of mechanical stiffness and vertical range of motion within the elastic region. The compliance for the fabricated MFIs is measured to...

In this study, we present confocal Raman microscopy for chemically selective analysis of a human buccal epithelial cell layer with a focus on label-free visualization of particle uptake into the cells. We demonstrate the suitability and benefit of this analytical technique in comparison to confocal fluorescence microscopy for three dimensional imaging of in vitro cell models.

Live imaging in cell biology requires three-dimensional data acquisition with the best resolution and signal-to-noise ratio possible. Depth aberrations are a major source of image degradation in three-dimensional microscopy, causing a significant loss of resolution and intensity deep into the sample. These aberrations occur because of the mismatch between the sample refractive index and the imm...

Diffuse optical tomographic imaging is known to be an ill-posed problem, and a penalty/regularization term is used in image reconstruction (inverse problem) to overcome this limitation. Two schemes that are prevalent are spatially varying (exponential) and constant (standard) regularizations/penalties. A scheme that is also spatially varying but uses the model information is introduced based on...

Tomographic diffractive microscopy is a three-dimensional imaging technique that reconstructs the permittivity map of the probed sample from its scattered field, measured both in phase and in amplitude. Here, we detail how polarization-resolved measurements permit us to significantly improve the accuracy and the resolution of the reconstructions, compared to the conventional scalar treatments u...

Electrophysiological mapping and ablation techniques are increasingly used to diagnose and treat many types of supraventricular and ventricular tachycardias. These procedures require an intimate knowledge of intracardiac anatomy and their use has led to a renewed interest in visualization of specific structures. This has required collaborative efforts from imaging as well as electrophysiology e...
