A manifestly gauge invariant formulation of the coupling of the Maxwell theory with an Einstein Cartan geometry is given, where the space time torsion originates from a massless Kalb-Ramond field augmented by suitable U(1) Chern Simons terms. We focus on the situation where the torsion violates parity, and relate it to earlier proposals for gravitational parity violation. Electronic address: pa...

It is shown that in five dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theories exact vacuum solutions with non-vanishing torsion can be constructed. Some possible observational effects related to neutrino oscillations are pointed out. In the theory of continuum media (in which suitable defects can be described by localized non vanishing torsion) ”the gravitational intuition” is a rather useful tool to des...

We develop the general theory of stars in Saa’s model of gravity with propagating torsion and study the basic stationary state of neutron star. Our numerical results show that the torsion force decreases the role of the gravity in the star configuration and increases the maximum of the neutron star mass up to 5− 6M⊙ depending on the equation of state of matter. gr-qc/9803084

In this article, we formalize a torsion Z-module and a torsionfree Z-module. Especially, we prove formally that finitely generated torsion-free Z-modules are finite rank free. We also formalize properties related to rank of finite rank free Z-modules. The notion of Z-module is necessary for solving lattice problems, LLL (Lenstra, Lenstra, and Lovász) base reduction algorithm [20], cryptographic...

In this paper we extend Witten–Helffer–Sjöstrand theory from selfadjoint Laplacians based on fiber wise Hermitian structures, to non-selfadjoint Laplacians based on fiber wise non-degenerate symmetric bilinear forms. As an application we verify, up to sign, the conjecture about the comparison of the Milnor–Turaev torsion with the complex valued analytic torsion, for odd dimensional manifolds. T...

I will give an outline of the definition and basic properties of the version of higher Reidemeister torsion developed by John Klein and myself using parametrized Morse theory and polylogarithms. I also explain how this higher torsion is calculated first from the definition and from the axioms. I also explain at the end how these axioms might be extended to the case of nontrivial representations...

We compute the K-theory of quantum automorphism groups of finite dimensional C-algebras in the sense of Wang. The results show in particular that the C-algebras of functions on the quantum permutation groups S + n are pairwise non-isomorphic for different values of n. Along the way we discuss some general facts regarding torsion in discrete quantum groups. In fact, the duals of quantum automorp...

In this short note we discuss discrete torsion in orientifolds. In particular, we apply the physical understanding of discrete torsion worked out several years ago, as group actions on B fields, to the case of orientifolds, and recover some old results of Braun and Stefanski concerning group cohomology and twisted equivariant K theory. We also derive new results including phase factors for nono...

We consider the CPT anomaly of two-dimensional chiral U(1) gauge theory on a torus with topologically nontrivial zweibeins corresponding to the presence of torsion. The resulting chiral determinant can be expressed in terms of the standard chiral determinant without torsion, but with modified spinor boundary conditions. This implies that the two-dimensional CPT anomaly can be moved from one spi...
