Chalcogenide glasses are disordered non crystalline materials which have pronounced tendency their atoms to link together to form link chain. Chalcogenide glasses can be obtained by mixing the chalcogen elements, viz, S, Se and Te with elements of the periodic table such as Ga, In, Si, Ge, Sn, As, Sb and Bi, Ag, Cd, Zn etc. In these glasses, short-range inter-atomic forces are predominantly cov...

Optical glasses are optimized to provide excellent transmittance throughout the total visible range from 400 to 800 nm. Usually the transmittance range spreads also into the near UV and IR regions. As a general trend lowest refractive index glasses show high transmittance far down to short wavelengths in the UV. Going to higher index glasses the UV absorption edge moves closer to the visible ra...

Physical vapor deposition is commonly used to prepare organic glasses that serve as the active layers in light-emitting diodes, photovoltaics, and other devices. Recent work has shown that orienting the molecules in such organic semiconductors can significantly enhance device performance. We apply a high-throughput characterization scheme to investigate the effect of the substrate temperature (...

Obsidians found in silicic domes and rhyolitic tuffs are an ideal system to understand the formation conditions of calc-alkaline felsic magmas. The Optical Absorption Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopic data presented this study demonstrate that Fe-speciation obsidians is different from observed other geological glasses (e.g., basaltic glasses) or synthetic Fe-bearing silicate g...

This article reports on optical properties of Mn 2+ (0.5 mol%): 49.5 B2O3 10PbO 30CdO -10AlF3 glasses. Optical absorption spectrum of the manganese ions doped glass exhibits broad absorption band at 473 nm. Photoluminescence spectrum of Mn 2+ (0.5 mol %): 49.5B2O330CdO – 10PbO 10AlF3 glass has revealed a red emission at 618 nm with an excitation wavelength 467 nm.
