In the NLMS (normalized least mean square) adaptive filters, choosing a suitable step size is crucial as the stability and the steady-state convergence error of the adaptive filter heavily depends on the step size value. In this paper, we propose a new VSS (variable step size) control method for the NLMS adaptive filter applicable to on-frequency RF repeaters that operate under fading feedback ...

In Stereophonic Acoustic Echo Cancellation (SAEC), one of the fundamental problems lies in the misalignment in the lter coe cients due to the two strongly correlated channel-inputs. In this paper, we study the e ect of the normalisation factor, , upon the convergence properties of the two-channel Normalised Least Mean Square ( -NLMS) algorithm, through analysis and simulation studies with real ...

The block algorithm in [l] has illustrated significant improvement in performance over the NLMS algorithm. However, it is known that block processing algorithms have lower tracking capabilities than their sampleby-sample counterparts. The Fast Affine Projection (FAP) algorithm [2] also outperforms the NLMS with a slight increase in complexity, but involves the fast calculation of the inverse of...

This paper analyzes an SVD based low rank transform domain adaptive filtering algorithm and proves that it performs better than Normalized LMS. The method extracts an underdetermined solution from an overdetermined least squares problem, using a part of the unitary transformation formed by the right singular vectors of the data matrix. The aim is to get as close to the solution of an overdeterm...

It is well known that DC offset degrades the performance of analog adaptive filters. The effects of DC offset on LMS derivatives such as sign-data LMS, sign-error LMS and sign-sign LMS have been studied to much extent but that on MLMS, VSSLMS and NLMS algorithms have remained relatively ignored. The present paper reports the effects of dc offset on LMS algorithm and its four variations Sign LMS...

The performance of the Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) algorithm for adaptive filtering is dependent on the spectral flatness of the reference input. Thus, the standard NLMS algorithm does not perform well in Over-Sampled Subband Adaptive Filters (OS-SAFs) because colored subband signals are generated even for white input signals. Thus we propose the use of the Affine Projection Algorithm (...

MC-CDMA is an attractive multi-access method for the next generation high-speed mobile communication systems. The uplink transmission performance is limited by the multi-access interference (MAI) from other users since all users share the same bandwidth. Adaptive antenna array can be used to suppress the MAI and to improve the uplink transmission performance. In this paper, we propose a frequen...

Speech enhancement is an important research area with numerous applications ranging from hearing aids, to coding and automatic recognition of speech signals. In this survey paper we focus on enhancement of the audio signal from Noise with help of various Adaptive Algorithm techniques. The LMS, NLMS, VSLMS and RLS algorithms comparative analysis was

In various communications-based adaptive array applications, the directions of arrival (DOAs) of the desired user signal are sparsely separated. As such, the desired beam-pattern has a sparse structure. We propose an NLMS based adaptive algorithm which exploits this sparse DOA structure and provides significantly improved convergence speeds.

The problem of regulating the transmission rate of an available bit rate (ABR) traÆc source in an ATM network is examined. Of particular interest is linear quadratic (LQ) rate regulation based on estimates of the round-trip propagation delay. The round trip delay is estimated using a nonlinear least mean square (NLMS) algorithm. Simulation results are used to demonstrate the method.
