BACKGROUND Both uremia and metabolic syndrome (MetS) affect heart rate variability (HRV) which is a risk factor of poor prognoses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of MetS on HRV among chronic hemodialysis patients. METHODS This cross-sectional study was carried out in a teaching hospital in Northern Taiwan from June to August, 2010. Adult patients on chronic hemodialysis with...

Human rhinovirus (HRV) infections lead to exacerbations of lower airways disease in asthmatic patients but not in healthy individuals. However, underlying mechanisms remain to be completely elucidated. We hypothesized that the Th2-driven allergic environment enhances HRV-induced CC chemokine production, leading to asthma exacerbations. Ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized and -challenged mice inoculated ...

In the present paper we describe a model of neurovisceral integration in which a set of neural structures involved in cognitive, affective, and autonomic regulation are related to heart rate variability (HRV) and cognitive performance. We will provide pharmacological and neuroimaging data in support of the neural structures linking the central nervous system to HRV. Next, we will review a numbe...

The picornavirus 3C protease is required for the majority of proteolytic cleavages that occur during the viral life cycle. Comparisons of published amino acid sequences from 6 human rhinoviruses (HRV) and 20 human enteroviruses (HEV) show considerable variability in the 3C protease-coding region but strict conservation of the catalytic triad residues. Rupintrivir (formerly AG7088) is an irrever...

Background. As part of the project "Relationships between parameters electrolytes exchange and EEG&HRV in people without kidney disease patients with chronic pyelonephritis" we have previously shown that calcium EEG/HRV are closely related. In this study, analyzed relationships phosphate same cohort patients. Material methods. The object observation were 48 males 15 females 24-76 years old,...

Human rhinovirus (HRV) accounts for a significant portion of common-cold illness, with the peak incidence being in the early fall. Three hundred forty-six adults who had self-diagnosed colds of 48 h or less were enrolled in a study during September and October 1994 to determine the frequency and clinical course of HRV infections. Nasal wash specimens for viral culture and reverse transcription-...

The genome of human rhinovirus A22 (HRV-A22) was assembled by deep sequencing RNA samples from nasopharyngeal swabs. The assembled genome is 8.7% divergent from the HRV-A22 reference strain over its full length, and it is only the second full-length genome sequence for HRV-A22. The new strain is designated strain HRV-A22/Lancaster/2015.

This research was designed to extend the literature on heart rate variability (HRV) in cognitive performance contexts by examining whether a subtle threat cue (the color red) in a test environment influences HRV reactivity and whether HRV reactivity is associated with change in cognitive performance. Thirty-three participants took an IQ test, briefly viewed red or a chromatic or achromatic cont...

Background: Heart rate variability (HRV), the physiological variance in the heart's R-R interval length, can be analyzed to produce various parameters reflective of one's autonomic balance. HRV analysis may be used to capture those autonomic aberrations associated with chronic neuropathic pain (NP) in spinal cord injury (SCI). This study assesses the capacity of HRV parameters to diagnose NP in...

1320 Emerging Infectious Diseases • www.cdc.gov/eid • Vol. 15, No. 8, August 2009 ed in 7 patients; 5 were co-infected with HBoV (2 patients had LRTIs, 2 had upper respiratory tract infections, and 1 had undefined symptoms), and 2 were co-infected with RSV (both patients had symptoms of LRTIs). Of the other 3 patients co-infected with HRV and HBoV, 1 was infected with HRV-B (had LRTI), 1 with H...
