To compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIT) with one versus three changes of direction (COD) on young (age, 17.2±1.1 years) female basketball players’ performance, six weeks of regular basketball training (control period) was followed by six weeks of high-intensity training added to regular training , two times per week, with a random allocation of athletes to either HIT wi...

In this study, the selectivity of UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) enzyme inhibition by ketamine (KTM) and the kinetics of KTM inhibition of human liver microsomal morphine (MOR) and codeine (COD) glucuronidation were characterized to explore a pharmacokinetic basis for the KTM-opioid interaction. With the exception of UGT1A4, KTM inhibited the activities of recombinant human UGT enzymes in a ...

Microbial bioanodes were formed in pulp and paper effluent on graphite plate electrodes under constant polarization at -0.3 V/SCE, without any addition of nutriment or substrate. The bioanodes were characterized in 3-electrode set-ups, in continuous mode, with hydraulic retention times from 6 to 48 h and inlet COD from 500 to 5200 mg/L. Current densities around 4A/m(2) were obtained and voltamm...

The cation, anion, and solvent in the title compound, [K(C(18)H(36)N(2)O(6))][Co(C(8)H(12))(C(16)H(10))(2)]·0.5C(5)H(12), are well separated. The pentane solvent mol-ecules are found in channels along [100] and were modeled as disordered over crystallographic inversion centers. Using the mid-points of the coordinated olefins, the angle between the C(py)/C(py)-Co-C(py)/C(py) and the C(cod)/C(cod...

Nicotinamide (NA) and metoclopramide (MCA) have been shown to be sensitisers of the effects of radiation and drugs in experimental rodent tumours growing in skin and muscle. We have used 86Rb uptake to investigate the effects of these two drugs on the distribution of blood to a mouse carcinoma (NT) growing in skin, muscle or the gut wall, as well as to the host normal tissue. NA caused an incre...

The Barents Sea system is often depicted as a simple food web in terms of number of dominant feeding links. The most conspicuous feeding link is between the Northeast Arctic cod Gadus morhua, the world's largest cod stock which is presently at a historical high level, and capelin Mallotus villosus. The system also holds diverse seabird and marine mammal communities. Previous diet studies may su...

Treatment of oilfield produced water was investigated using an anaerobic process coupled with micro-electrolysis (ME), focusing on changes in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biodegradability. Results showed that COD exhibited an abnormal change in the single anaerobic system in which it increased within the first 168 hr, but then decreased to 222 mg/L after 360 hr. The biological oxygen demand...

An Ir(I) complex of an acetamidinato ligand was synthesized by reaction of N,N'-diphenylacetamidine, PhN[double bond, length as m-dash]C(Me)NHPh, with either MeLi and [{Ir(cod)}2(μ-Cl)2] or [{Ir(cod)}2(μ-OMe)2] and was characterized by X-ray crystallography as a mononuclear complex, [Ir{PhNC(Me)NPh}(cod)] (1; where cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene). Reaction of 1 with CO afforded a dinuclear carbonyl c...

An (alkene)peroxoiridium(III) complex, [Ir(L)(cod)(O(2))] [where LH = PhN=C(NMe(2))NHPh and cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene], was identified as an intermediate in the reaction of the Ir(I) precursor [Ir(L)(cod)] with O(2) and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Decay of the intermediate and further reaction with 1,5-cyclooctadiene produced 4-cycloocten-1-one.

A variety of mononuclear alkene complexes, [Ir{ArNC(NR2)NAr}(cod)], and dicarbonyl complexes, [Ir{ArNC(NR2)NAr}(CO)2] (where R = Me or Et; Ar = Ph, 4MeC6H4, 4-MeOC6H4, 2,6-Me2C6H3 or 2,6-Pr2C6H3; and cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene), were synthesized from the neutral N,N-dialkyl-N′,N′′-diarylguanidines via deprotonation and transmetalation. These complexes were fully characterized by spectroscopic tec...
