A novel method for calculation of the motion and radiation reaction for the two-body problem (body plus particle, the small parameter m/M being the ratio of the masses) is presented. In the background curvature given by the Schwarzschild geometry rippled by gravita-tional waves, the geodesic equations insure the presence of radiation reaction also for high velocities and strong field. The metho...

The concept of food security has been defined on numerous occasions by the international community and it has evolved considerably over time. One of the most fundamental shifts has been the change from an initial concept in which food security was considered equivalent to the reliable availability of food towards the contemporary notion in which food is one of the elements of a complex social c...

This study describes cost management development projects in three customer–supplier relationships and analyzes these projects from the perspective of relationships. Differences in suppliers’ objectives, actions taken, and results gained in the projects were found in the explorative study, although the customer’s objective was the same in all cases. The use of cost information depended on the b...

Abstract We prove the following asymptotic behavior for solutions to the generalized Becker-Döring system for general initial data: under a detailed balance assumption and in situations where density is conserved in time, there is a critical density ρs such that solutions with an initial density ρ0 ≤ ρs converge strongly to the equilibrium with density ρ0, and solutions with initial density ρ0 ...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlations of scores on the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and the Single Leg Stance (SLS) test with stability scores on the Biodex Balance System (BBS) in healthy adults. METHOD The postural balance of 73 participants was measured on the TUG and SLS tests and with the Overall Stability Index (OSI) on the BBS. The participants were divided into groups by age and by ...

The worldwide prevalence of obesity is increasing at an alarming rate, with major adverse consequences for human health. This "obesity epidemic" is paralleled by a rapid and substantive increase in our understanding of molecular pathways and physiologic systems underlying the regulation of energy balance. While efforts to address the environmental factors that are responsible for the recent "ep...

The different techniques and methods employed as well as the different quantitative and qualitative variables measured in order to objectify postural control are often chosen without taking into account the population studied, the objective of the postural test, and the environmental conditions. For these reasons, the aim of this review was to present and justify the different testing technique...

In this paper we describe our participation in the Summarization track at the 2009 Text Analysis Conference (TAC). The Summarization track was composed of two tasks: Update Summarization and Automatically Evaluating Summaries of Peers (AESOP). We submitted two runs for the former and four for the latter. In the following sections we describe our runs and discuss the results attained.

Color device calibration is traditionally performed using one-dimensional per-channel tone-response corrections (TRCs). While one-dimensional TRCs are attractive in view of their low implementation complexity and efficient real-time processing of color images, their use severely restricts the degree of control that can be exercised along various device axes. A typical example is that 1-D TRCs i...

This paper argues that the efficiency distribution of players in a game determines how aggressively these players interact. We formalize the idea of balance of power: players fight very inefficient players but play softly versus equally (or more) efficient players. This theory of conduct predicts that entry by new firms leads to a less aggressive outcome if it creates a balance of power. A bala...
