Participatory design approaches are being increasingly employed for designing digital artefacts and information systems with and for local communities. These cases require a reconceptualization of PD processes to account for widened knowledge gaps between designers and community members, and new patterns of community-defined design goals. In this paper we provide a perspective on the design pro...

The importance of a skilled facilitator in design meetings with users is often emphasized, but less is said about how to improve the facilitation process. This paper reports experiences and lessons learned from facilitation of cardbased sessions in three design cases through an analysis of two sessions with users, and one session with professional designers. The analysis showed that many altern...

We consider the problem of determining precisely which graphs G have the property that the split-off operation, by every pair of edges, on the cycle matroid M(G) yields a graphic matroid. This problem is solved by proving that there are exactly four minor-minimal graphs that do not have this property.

In recent years there has been widespread concern in the scientific community over a reproducibility crisis. Among the major causes that have been identified is statistical: In many scientific research the statistical analysis (including data preparation) suffers from a lack of transparency and methodological problems, major obstructions to reproducibility. The revisit package aims toward remed...

A vacuum of public trust in Australia has met with the maturation of technologically competent constituents. Changing sociopolitical attitudes and perceived government corruption and inefficiency have effected demands for accountability and transparency. Two responses are visible: the digitisation of government services and original models of digital democracy. This paper discusses the role dis...

In this paper, we shed new light on the role of monetary policy in asset pricing by focusing on the case where investors have heterogeneous expectations about future monetary policy. This case is realistic, because central banks are typically less than perfectly open on their intentions. Accordingly, surveys of economists in the press reveal that they frequently disagree in their expectations. ...

Transparency is a complex issue, which can be approached from many angles and with various conceptual tools. This contribution provides a brief survey of the economic literature on transparency. The conceptual tool that economists use is the principal-agent model, a game-theoretic setting where a principal (the citizens, shareholders, etc) wants an agent (the government, the CEO, etc.) to perfo...

It has recently been shown that infinite matroids can be axiomatized in a way that is very similar to finite matroids and permits duality. This was previously thought impossible, since finitary infinite matroids must have non-finitary duals. In this paper we illustrate the new theory by exhibiting its implications for the cycle and bond matroids of infinite graphs. We also describe their algebr...
