A composite material consisting of Bacillus subtilis spores suspended in a humidity sensitive hydrogel can be used to pattern biomolecules in different concentrations directly onto glass surfaces using a mechanical micromanipulator. By altering the relative humidity surrounding the composite gel during deposition, surface concentration of patterned biomolecules can be controlled and varied to c...
BioM2MetDisease is a manually curated database that aims to provide a comprehensive and experimentally supported resource of associations between metabolic diseases and various biomolecules. Recently, metabolic diseases such as diabetes have become one of the leading threats to people’s health. Metabolic disease associated with alterations of multiple types of biomolecules such as miRNAs and me...
Separation and analysis of biomolecules represent crucial processes for biological and biomedical engineering development; however, separation resolution and speed for biomolecules analysis still require improvements. To achieve separation and analysis of biomolecules in a short time, the use of highly-ordered nanostructures fabricated by top-down or bottom-up approaches have been proposed. Her...
Here we present a microfluidic platform to generate multiplex gradients of biomolecules within parallel microfluidic channels, in which a range of multiplex concentration gradients with different profile shapes are simultaneously produced. Nonlinear polynomial gradients were also generated using this device. The gradient generation principle is based on implementing parrallel channels with each...
The structural diversity of biomolecules is quite simply enormous. Although many polymeric biomolecules such as proteins, and ribonucleic (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic (DNA) acids have complex but rather well-defined lowest-energy structures, it became increasingly apparent in recent years that many of them have not. Especially for proteins, but also for RNA, it has been shown that they can instea...
Gold silica nanocomposite-based biosensors are performing well in sensor technology for biosensor development. Due to this has good selectivity, excellent conductivity, large surface area, efficient enhancement of electron transfer between enzymes and electrodes biocompatibility. Therefore, gold nanocomposite can be an ideal matrix immobilization biomolecules. This review describes the method s...
A design strategy for high-affinity aptamers of complex biomolecules is presented. We developed an RNA with FAD-binding properties by combining known ATP- and FMN-aptamers. Cooperative binding of FAD was shown by SPR spectroscopy and fluorescence assays. The strategy should be transferable to several other biomolecules.
Molecular helical structures are prevalent in biomolecules such as proteins and polynucleotides (e.g., DNA, RNA). This structural arrangement imparts additional stability to biomolecules necessary for many important biological functions including replication, signal transduction, and catalysis. Since the revolutionary discovery in 1953 that DNA structure exists as a double helix (Figure 1A), nu...
In this paper, we present atomic scale reactive molecular dynamics simulations for the interactions of reactive oxygen species (i.e., O, OH, O2, O3 and H2O2) with biomolecules, more specifically with bacterial peptidoglycan, as well as with a phospholipid bilayer. Furthermore, we have also investigated the behavior of these species in water, as a simple model system for the liquid film surround...
