چکیده

Abstract Introduction Visceral adiposity is a key predictor of both metabolic syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Both OSA are associated with cardiometabolic disorders, however, the association these disorders weakens in older adults. We compared relative strength between visceral vs. hypertension diabetes whether this stronger middle-aged Methods A clinical sample 148 adults (53.79±12.45y, 36,5% female) mild-to-moderate (5≤AHI<30) underwent 8-hour polysomnography, history physical examination, including measures blood pressure fasting glucose. Hypertension was defined as ≥140/90mmHg or use anti-hypertensive medication. Diabetes glucose ≥100mg/dL receiving treatment for diabetes, except insulin. Adiposity Index (VAI) calculated within each sex using Amato et al (2010) standardized formulas based on waist, BMI, triglycerides HDL cholesterol. Logistic regression models examined VAI AHI while simultaneously adjusting stratifying by age. also generated under receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) curves (AUC) having outcomes gender, age, independent variables. Results greater odds (OR=1.57, 95%CI=1.20-2.06, P=0.001) (OR=1.27, 95%CI=1.02-1.57, p=0.031) to (OR=1.05, 95%CI=0.98-1.13, p=0.185; OR=1.07, 95% CI=1.00-1.14, p=0.690, respectively) aged <60y. There no ≥60y. Adding standard factors (age, sex, BMI) yielded moderately-good risk (AUC=0.73) (AUC=0.70) <60y, suboptimal (AUC=0.61 0.68, Conclusion These data indicate that adiposity, but not AHI, patients OSA, an obesity should be priority preventive/therapeutic interventions young OSA. findings further support distinctly different phenotype. Sleep Apnea in Patients with Stroke and Related Risk Factors

Background and Objectives: Sleep apnea involves repetitive cycles of obstructive sleep that disrupt sleep. This complication is the most important modifiable risk factors for stroke. The aim of this study was to assess sleep apnea in patients with stroke.    Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 132 patients with stroke were recruited using convenience samplin...

C‐reactive protein improves the ability to detect cardiometabolic risk in mild‐to‐moderate obstructive sleep apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), particularly in the mild-to-moderate range, affects up to 40% of the adult general population. While it is clear that treatment should be pursued in severe cases of OSA, when and how to best treat OSA in the mild-to-moderate range remains complicated, despite its high prevalence. The aim of this study was to compare the relative utility of apnea/hypopnea index (AH...

[Efficacies of stimulation of genioglossus in mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients after uvulopalatopharyngoplasty].

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacies of transcutaneous stimulation of genioglossus on remaining mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) after uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP). METHODS A total of 22 patients diagnosed with mild-to-moderate OSAS by polysomnography (PSG) after UPPP were recruited from Sleep Center of First Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University from Feb...

Association of autonomic dysfunction and mild obstructive sleep apnea.

BACKGROUND Autonomic dysfunction (AD) has been independently associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Autonomic abnormalities are generally considered to be secondary to OSA. Autonomic dysfunction may also contribute to OSA. If AD contributes to OSA, we postulated that abnormalities may be present in mild OSA where the confounding causal effects of hypoxemia and sleep disruption are reduc...

Efficacy of Orthoapnea Mandibular Advance Device in Patients with Mild and Moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Rationale: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the treatment of choice in patients with Symptomatic Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). Recently, Mandibular Advancement Devices (MAD) are used in the treatment of OSAS. Objective: Investigate the efficacy of the Orthoapnea MAD in patients with mild or moderate OSAS in adults. Methods: This is a prospective study. Patients diagnosed...
