106 Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Following an Episode of Cholecystitis: Are We Meeting the NICE Guidance?

Abstract Aim On average, acute cholecystitis is responsible for 3% of admissions to emergency general surgery wards. NICE Guideline [QS104] states that adult patients admitted with should be offered a laparoscopic cholecystectomy within one week diagnosis. This study aims assess adherence this guideline in medium size district hospital. Method Data was gathered retrospectively from contemporaneous electronic-based patient record system. Patients first case 486-days’ time period were included; incorrect coding or repeat our excluded. on admission length, aetiology, investigations undergone and procedure type (open vs laparoscopic). Additionally, those underwent cholecystectomy, the length between diagnosis operation calculated. Results 72 adults 486-day period. The median stay 3 days. commonest aetiology either gallstones unknown (47.2% cases each), followed by bacterial infection (5.6%). 9 (12.5%) 10 (13.9%) placed waiting list. remaining 53 (73.6%) had no mention being listed their notes. Of undergoing (n = 9), none recommended one-week Conclusions Over 486 days, diagnosed unit treated according guidance. We therefore recommend reinstating hot gallbladder list at hospital, which will enable surgeons deliver biliary service advocated national guidelines.
