3D-PTV flow measurements of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid blending in a batch reactor in the transitional regime

Lagrangian trajectories obtained through 3D Particle Tracking Velocimetry (3D-PTV) measurements have been used to visualize the flow field of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a flat-bottomed vessel. The vessel, diameter T=180 mm, was equipped with 6-blade Rushton turbine D=T/3 four baffles width b=T/10. experiments were carried out transitional regime (73≤Re≤1,257). velocities accelerations flows calculated from time-resolved tracer coordinates. Non-Newtonian exhibited smaller impeller number compared fluids. distributions shear rate via interpolation velocity data Eulerian grid. In region, mean was, first approximation, proportional rotational speed, although more detailed analysis revealed influences both rheology Reynolds number. acceleration scaled raised power 1.8.
