A Carbon Reduction and Waste Heat Utilization Strategy for Generators in Scalable PV—Diesel Generator Campus Microgrids

The increased unavailability of electricity from the National Utility in South Africa, coupled with extreme conditions rural areas and general lack infrastructure, leads to setup unique microgrids utilize available. One such microgrid, a scalable photovoltaic (PV)-Diesel generator is situated Phuthaditjhaba district on University Free State (UFS) Qwaqwa campus Africa. Waste heat greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are considered inherent by-products hybrid PV—Diesel high utilization opportunities for both exchange carbon offsets. This paper presents confirmation that available waste typical microgrid can be stored through use rock bed thermal energy storage (TES) system. It was identified that, temperature profile heat, utilized deferable (time-independent) non-deferable (time-dependent) strategies. Both strategies dependent type application or applications chosen demand-side management. Carbon emission reduction takes place diesel consumption due previously served by generators. Design novelties presented using concept TES within setup.
