A Closed Form Selected Mapping Algorithm for PAPR Reduction in OFDM Multicarrier Transmission

Nowadays, the demand for communication multi-carriers’ channels, where sub-channels are made mutually independent by using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), is widespread both wireless and wired systems. Even if OFDM a spectrally efficient modulation scheme, due to allowed number of subcarriers, high data rate, good coverage, transmitted signal can present peak values in time domain, inverse fast Fourier transform operations. This gives rise peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) with respect single carrier These peaks saturate transmitting amplifiers, modifying shape symbol affecting its information content, they give electromagnetic compatibility issues surrounding electric devices. In this paper, closed form PAPR reduction algorithm proposed, which belongs selected mapping (SLM) methods. methods consist shifting phases components minimize amplitude peaks. The determination optimal set phase shifts very complex problem; therefore, SLM approaches proposed literature all resort iterative algorithms. Moreover, as calculation must be performed online, computational cost effect on bit rate (BR) cannot established priori. analytic finds an approximated formulation PAPR. Simulation results outperform unprocessed conventional transmission several dBs. complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) shows that, most packets, reduces compared randomly shifts. For example, shifted U=8, CCFD curves corresponding analytical random intersect at probability value equal 10−2, means that 99% cases former method more than latter one. also confirmed gain, which, same 10−1, changes from 2.09 dB 1.68 SLM.
