Physics Motivations for Future Cern Accelerators *
We summarize the physics motivations for future accelerators at CERN. We argue that (a) a luminosity upgrade for the LHC could provide good physics return for a relatively modest capital investment, (b) CLIC would provide excellent long-term perspectives within many speculative scenarios for physics beyond the Standard Model, (c) a Very Large Hadron Collider could provide the first opportunity ...
متن کاملπνν̄ experiment at CERN
The P326 proposal for an experiment to measure the branching ratio of the very rare kaon decay K + → π + ν ¯ ν at the CERN SPS is described. The proposed experiment aims to collect about 80 K + → π + ν ¯ ν events with a 10% of background in two years of data taking. The status of the project, the R&D and the future perspectives for the experiment are discussed.
متن کاملFuture Perspectives at CERN
Current and future experiments at CERN are reviewed, with emphasis on those relevant to astrophysics and cosmology. These include experiments related to nuclear astrophysics, matter-antimatter asymmetry, dark matter, axions, gravitational waves, cosmic rays, neutrino oscillations, inflation, neutron stars and the quark-gluon plasma. The centrepiece of CERN’s future programme is the LHC, but some...

We point out that in certain four-dimensional extensions of general relativity constructed within the Palatini formalism stable self-gravitating objects with a discrete mass and charge spectrum may exist. The incorporation of nonlinearities in the electromagnetic field may effectively reduce their mass spectrum by many orders of magnitude. As a consequence, these objects could be within (or nea...
