چکیده
Evaluating the structural safety and seakeeping performance of very large floating structures (VLFS) using rigid module flexible connector (RMFC) method remains challenging due to complexity coupled hydrodynamic–structural responses in this system. In study, a frequency–time domain model is developed based on RMFC employing planar Euler–Bernoulli beam elements investigate dynamic multi-module systems. Floating Bodies of Equilibrium
A long cylindrical body of circular cross-section and homogeneous density may float in all orientations around the cylinder axis. It is shown that there are also bodies of non-circular cross-sections which may float in any direction. Apart from those found by Auerbach for ρ = 1/2 there are one-parameter families of cross-sections for ρ 6= 1/2 which have a p-fold rotation axis. For given p they ...
متن کاملTime-domain computations for floating bodies
A review of the research carried out at the University of Michigan and elsewhere on the use of time-domain panel methods to compute the hydrodynamic forces acting on floating bodies is presented. Both linear and fully nonlinear computational techniques are presented. The linear problem is solved using a time-domain Green function approach. The fully nonlinear computations are done using an Eule...
متن کاملSpice Compatible Model for Multiple Coupled Nonuniform Transmission Lines Application in Transient Analysis of VLSI Circuits
An SPICE compatible model for multiple coupled nonuniform lossless transmission lines (TL's) is presented. The method of the modeling is based on the steplines approximation of the nonuniform TLs and quasi-TEM assumptions. Using steplines approximation the system of coupled nonuniform TLs is subdivided into arbitrary large number of coupled uniform lines (steplines) with different characteristi...
متن کاملArchimedes’ floating bodies on a spherical Earth
Archimedes was the first to systematically find the centers of gravity of various solid bodies and to apply this concept in determining stable configurations of floating bodies. In this paper, we discuss an error in a proof developed by Archimedes that involves determining whether a uniform, spherical cap will float stably with its base horizontal in a liquid on a spherical Earth. We present a ...
متن کاملWave drag on floating bodies.
We measure the deceleration of liquid nitrogen drops floating at the surface of a liquid bath. On water, the friction force is found to be about 10 to 100 times larger than on a solid substrate, which is shown to arise from wave resistance. We investigate the influence of the bath viscosity and show that the dissipation decreases as the viscosity is increased, owing to wave damping. The measure...
