چکیده
The paper describes an advanced discrete-element based mechanical model, which allows modelling contact interaction of ductile materials with taking into account fracture and surface adhesion by the cold welding mechanism. model these competitive processes from a unified standpoint uses plastic work deformation as criterion both local chemical bonding surfaces in spots. Finite-element modeling of dry sliding wear in metals
This paper is concerned with the calibration and validation of a finite-element model of dry sliding wear in metals. The model is formulated within a Lagrangian framework capable of accounting for large plastic deformations and history-dependent material behavior. We resort to continuous adaptive meshing as a means of eliminating deformation-induced element distortion, and of resolving fine fea...
متن کاملAnalysis of Wear Phenomena in Sliding Contact Surfaces
A general approach to numerically simulating wear in rolling and sliding contacts is presented in this thesis. A simulation scheme is developed that calculates the wear at a detailed level. The removal of material follows Archard‟s wear law, which states that the reduction of volume is linearly proportional to the sliding distance, the normal load and the wear coefficient Careful attention is p...
متن کاملThe Relation between Wear and Irreversible Entropy Generation in the Dry Sliding of Metals
This paper examines the relationship between wear and the generation of entropy within the mechanically affected zone, MAZ, of a sliding material. It is postulated that wear is related to irreversible entropy generation within the MAZ. This accumulation takes a place due to the degradation in the ability of the rubbing material to maintain a noncongested flow of the generated entropy. This, in ...
متن کاملSurface folding in metals: a mechanism for delamination wear in sliding.
Using high-resolution, in situ imaging of a hard, wedge-shaped model asperity sliding against a metal surface, we demonstrate a new mechanism for particle formation and delamination wear. Damage to the residual surface is caused by the occurrence of folds on the free surface of the prow-shaped region ahead of the wedge. This damage manifests itself as shallow crack-like features and surface tea...
متن کاملSliding contact between freeform surfaces
This paper deals with the sliding-contact constraint equations describing the relative motion of two freeform surfaces, assuming that the surfaces can have arbitrary curvature in 3D space. The sliding-contact equations are developed either for the non-penetration condition and for the surface-tangency condition. Both are differentiated twice in time in order to allow a straightforward applicati...
